2010 TL SHAWD vs 2001 Camaro Z28
So my girlfriend called me on her way back to work this evening and let me know that she thinks a Camaro is trying to race her. I asked her how she knew, and she said that after she passed him at an intersection he immediately turned to chase her down. I let her know that she can race him if she wants to (she is a very cautious driver and wouldnt do anything stupid especially if there was traffic or even other cars around. So she said ok, she will see what happens and call em back.
After about 3 mins, she called me back and said she won lol. They both came to a stop and left at the green light. She beat him off the line and took it from there, towards the end she said he was catching up. She didnt use Sport mode or paddle shifting, she said she just put the pedal to the metal and won lol.....
Im proud of her, I checked the specs on the Camaro and its 310hp and 340tq 3614 pounds, 0-60 in 6.5 and 1/4 mile in 14.0 flat. Not bad for a timid girl and not paddle shifting or in sport mode.
She always gets cars trying to race her. I never get that lucky..... probably a goof thing.

Lol. I wish my girl called me and said "babe, I just beat a Camaro!!" That's awesome. to her.
I do have to say that a properly driven Z28 Camaro should be able to take the SH-awd from any speed. But, that doesn't take away the fact that your girl had a nice kill

Maybe the camaro needed a tune up and the tires were under inflated

I always thought they were quick, but who knows.... a careless owner can turn a z28 into a snail without maintenance. Either that or my TL is a freak of nature lol

Agreed, those numbers that Murky put up are way off for an 01 Z28. The 0 to 60 is about 1 sec slow and as you stated the 1/4 time is more than a .5 sec slow, those cars have a good geared 4spd auto tranny and puts its power down well if you hook it up right.

Pulled teh specs off a review on the web. I didnt make the car so Im not quite sure if the source I used was correct or not.... either way.... he got served by a slower car driven by a chick

That would be a 97 or older if it was an LT1, Murky said it was an 01...

There are better out there for the 98-01 LS1 Z28's.

I showed her pictures of the different camaros models and she chose which one it was, the one she picked was an 01, technically it could have been a 98-02..

Sounds about right, I have a 2000 WS6 also and bone stock I would say without a nice launch I think its a even race. I have a M6 WS6 and unless you launch without lighting them up its hard to get a good launch. I havent really beast on my TL yet it only has like 700 miles on it. I do however have a nice camshaft and other work done to my TA so I dont think its fair anymore......lmao

I would have to go with the LT1 theory unless it was a poorly maintained LS1. Back when they were new we took my friend's 50 mile LS1 Camaro straight to the track. He showed up in shorts and got turned down initially but finally the track guy said he could have one pass and then go home. With a conservative launch since it was his one and only run he went 13.6@106mph. They're getting older now and it's possible he was having issues. Even an LT1 should be a very close race. If I remember right the LT1s trapped around 101mph from what I saw but typically got down the 1/4 a little quicker than the TLs did with all of that low end torque and RWD. Throw in a bad driver that won't/can't take advantage of that torque on the launch and the TL will win. The LS1 with a solid 5mph trap advantage would have to be seriously hurting.

I've seen it once but most were mid 13s with a good driver. We had a shootout and have it on video somewhere. There was a huge debate over which was the quickest TA ever built, the '89 TTA GN powered TA or the LS1 WS6. Luckily I knew a girl that had an '89TTA that was bone stock down to the paper air fliter, exhaust, and boost level. We ended up running a guy in a 6mt WS6 (good driver) with exhaust which was the closest to stock we could find around here. The TTA beat it 3 out of 3 races but it was close. Still didn't shut up the internet know it alls even with the chick driving.

My 94 Z28 (LT1) A4 did mid 13s at 103mph with a y-pipe/catback, intake, and ECU flash. It even had the long highway gears (2.73 gearset) and would do nearly 90mph in 2nd

I will say the TTA is way better looking than the 90's models.

That's surprising without any extra boost. What gearing did the LS1 have? I know the TTA was underrated due to the Vette rule, but we're still talking 300 or a bit less crank horsepower against 325 and a 6 speed. The TTA was quick down low, but the LS1 should be able to pull on it after 60 with its 3-5 mph trap advantage. IIRC, a lot of mags were barely getting 101 mph from the TTA.
I will say the TTA is way better looking than the 90's models.

The girl racing it was ok, I taught her to spool it to 3psi on the brakes and let off and slowly ease it down. The TTA pulled the LS1 pretty hard to 60mph and it was hard to tell who was pulling who up top. She claimed she was still pulling away at the end.
When I posted the results back around '91 or '92 no one believed the TTA was bone stock. I was the one who did the first mods which was removing the paper filter, installing a bleeder valve to turn up the boost, chip, and good gas. That car went from mid 13.30s to 11.70s with $200 in mods.
Octane plays a huge role. I've seen them go 12.90 bone stock and then cross the border to CA and run 13.80. I know of one guy back in the old days that could not understand why his GN ran so terrible and eventually pulled the engine out searching for the problem. It was later determined it was when he moved to CA from Texas and switched octane and CA gas. This was before methanol was popular.

Props to your girl for beating the Camaro. Props taken away for letting your girl drive your car.
Just kidding, haha.
There are a tons of different things that could cause a car to perform poorly. ATs suck power, poorly maintained cars suck even more power, but most likely the driver just wasn't a good driver.
In this scenario all that was done was pushing a pedal to the floor. After that, 2010 electronics sorted everything out with the AWD.
If the Camaro was a 6MT, he could've gotten too much wheelspin off the line, or bogged down, could've redlined in any or all gears, not shifted quickly, shifted too early etc. etc.
