2010 G37S 6MT versus 2008 TL-S 6MT
You guys remember what happened the first time, right? I immediately gained, shifted, and he left me in the dust. Since the embarrassment, I've gotten a little bit better, with shifting that is (); I emphasize "little." Anyways, I thought all you enthusiasts would like to know that the TL-S fairs well with the G37. 3 honks, and we both left in 3rd. I had a passenger, and the driver of the TL-S did not. I took the lead by half a car, and we shut it down at the top of 4th. Neither one of us pulled after the half car jump by myself. So far, that was the best "quick" shift I've yet to do I was screaming in my car after haha
With a better driver, I don't see the G pulling away by much more, if at all honestly. The TL-S has a resonator deletion as well as Richie's new V3 J-pipe and the G is 100% stock, besides small aesthetics and...fluids, I guess (Redline Synthetic). Fun stuff! I'd call it a draw, yeah?
Until next time...fan_888

Richie V3 J-Pipe gives pretty decent gains, especially in torque....
I think if he ran you stock vs stock, you'd have no problem pulling another car length or two.
Nice runs!

How fast are you shifting anyways? Is there a lot of hesitation between shifts?
I don't know about you, but I slam gears ..

^ I think if you took 15whp / 9wtq away from a TL-S 6MT .. the G would definitely pull away even more ...
They only put down about 235 - 240whp stock ..

dude, the entire concept is mind boggling at the moment. i just don't get how to shift quickly. there's no hesitation between shifts...it's just straight into it. i just can't shift as quickly as more experienced drivers (duh). i mean, i can shorten the interval of shifting, but i just don't get it because with every shift, the point where the rpm drops to is always the same; shifting quicker doesn't make the rpms drop faster...ya know what i mean? so...a;soijfa;soijfas;idjf dunno...

Obviously the whole point in shifting as fast as possible is so you can get on the power as fast as possible.
When you engage the clutch, change gear and disengage the clutch you're essentially going from 100% to 0% to 100% .... you don't want any hesitation! You want to immediately get right back on the throttle.
I've only been driving manual since last October and my Accord is the only "High Performance" manual car I've ever owned .. I still have a lot to learn (Especially on 1st > 2nd shifts .. feels like they give a lot of drivetrain shock) .. I just can't wait til I get more comfortable with the car. hehe.

yeah, i hear you. i know what you mean...and i can "shift quickly"
there's something missing though, that i just don't know... the other driver, a good friend, tells me that he doesn't even get off the throttle.......at all (his shifts are THAT quick)...

yeah, i don't get it...hearing his car at wot when he's powershifting, and you don't hear a single chirp from the car's rpms jumping between shifts. doesn't even sound like he's powershifting...at all?

Anyway, I am not sure about the G37 but on the G35, you can shift when your clutch is about 1/2 down. That information could be wrong with other vehicle's makes but you can try that on your G37 unless you already knew about it

I have been driving manuals since I was 16. Learned on one.
IMO, powershifting anything but a car built for drag racing specifically is a bad idea.
Shifting with your foot and not your whole leg, KNOWing your engine's power band and good shift points (not ALWAYS at redline), knowing your gearbox well...having good timing between dropping clutch, changing gear, releasing clutch.
Funny enough, my Dad had taken a racing course when he was younger...I was shifting fast as hell with him in the car and he was criticisizing how UNSMOOTH I was. lol. Go figure...
I guess at the end of the day, to gain a 1/2 carlength in a race against some dude on the street that doesn't matter...it may not be worth the beating your luxury car will take.
At least as I get older I tell myself that. I'd rather my car keep feeling luxurious and smooth.

FWIW, the TL-S 6MT is in the 250-255 whp range stock; 235-240 are 5AT numbers.

Nice run Erick! I'm sure once you improve your shifting skills you will pull a little more. Without the passenger you probably would've pulled almost another full car.
Do you have any plans on modding the G or are you keeping it stock?

Damn Erick, nice runs! Your finally putting the car to use Dont worry too much about the shifting, you'll learn eventually. Practice makes perfect I'm with Tyler though, when I shift I slam it in as fast as possible lol The short shifter helps alot!!

At the moment, I'm trying to do a little aesthetically pleasing changes; the car isn't the best looking in my opinion, but I love the car still (minus the days when driving in traffic become frustrating; or when I just can't shift correctly - often ). I'm debating on an exhaust setup (a lot the ones currently out are too aggressive for the sedan's body; I have my eye on the Fast Intention exhaust), along with some gen3 stillen colds. But I'm still a bit uncertain . There's so much to do and very little disposable income to do it with! haha
Man, even that concept, I don't understand anymore. Am I slamming gears? Not sure. I've learned to get my foot off the clutch quicker; the same release as when I'm driving normally with my heel pivoting on the floor? I dunno man...so frustrating! I've gotten to the point where I can shorten the interval between shifts...but....................................:a nnoyed: dunno. ao;sf;aosijdf;aoisdjf;aiosdjf poop.

it's rather frustrating
on the contrary, the three of us ran into an s60r volvo that wanted to mess around. boy was that thing fast. i think i was the last to take off the tl-s 6mt in our group chased first and it didn't really look he was catching him. the guy got a little crazy though - he started swerving like a MOTHER F*#$ER and then almost clipped/hit the back on some car because he was going too fast. Really caught us off guard. However, a side note: we thought it was silly - he was swerving like 4 bus lengths in front of us; I guess he didn't see us stop chasing him? Quite a bit before he almost lost control of his car; his back 2 tires lifted off the ground, and the car actually pushed it's rear wheels to the left, as the rears were in the air; they slammed back down onto the ground and he bounced once and regained control. He continued to go on his merry way. I'm assuming he was saying something along the lines of: "F*#) I just SMOKED those retards," that or "I almost died" to himself. latter's probably unlikely, judging by the way he left the scene. EEK!
Poop on us for instigating it though

according to car and driver and infiniti.com, the 2010 sedan is quicker than the coupe down the 1/4 and to 60. It weighs less than the coupe as well, as far I know. it's ME the driver. haha

I was actually suprised to find this out but the difference in weight between the Sedan and coupe is minimal.
G37 7AT Sedan - 3605lbs
G37 7AT Coupe - 3627lbs
G37 6MT Sedan - 3640lbs (I was suprised the manual trans weight more than the auto!)
G37 6MT Coupe - 3653lbs
G37 7AT AWD Sedan - 3807lbs
G37 7AT AWD Coupe - 3830lbs
This was right from the infiniti website.

WOW...3600+ is a boat (no offense Erik! )
I didn't know it was that heavy, I thought it was around 3450+.

Better driver, or one with auto (auto consistently posts better numbers) would have pulled harder.
Anyhow congrats on the win. Sounds like you're getting better with your 3'rd pedal. Jealous a bit. The only reason I didn't get the 6mt is my woman can't drive stick and I didn't want to teach her on the G (she drives both my G and QX).
Nice car.
