2007 TL; 60K miles; timing belt replace??

Hi guys,

Had the TL at the dealer today for service and they told me that based on age they recommended timing belt replacement.

The car has less than 60K miles on it...but they told me that if it breaks the engine is done. What do you think.

Also, they quoted me $890 (excluding the tensor)...sound about right??

At 60k miles? F no. The dealer is just trying to make some money. Don't let them own you.

I wouldn't too worry about it, the belt is fine, you only have to worry about it if your car been in the extreme heat or cold weather.

The dealer used that as an argument as well (currently living in MI, and moved here from FLA).

I wouldn't say the dealer is way off, but there is a possibility that you may need to get it replaced.

Has your MID told you to do the timing belt service?

Even if its just based on age, you're still 2yrs shy of that 10yr mark. The belt should last until then, but if you have any doubt about it, then you can get it replaced for your own peace of mind.

Yep, as I said many times, there isn't an inhabited location in North America where that could be a factor...

And once again, there is no published mileage or time limit for the belt under normal conditions. It's when the MID shows a "4" with "Service Due Now".

OP, have some fun with your Service Advisor: Ask him to show you where Acura recommends/requires you to change your belt now. If he pulls up the "severe" limits as a reason, ask him how many -21F days Michigan has seen in the last 7 years

I imagine desert areas in the US, Alaska and Canada northern territories can touch those values. How often and for how long is questionable...

Coming on 10 years, only 58k mi ...only now thinking about the TB replacement solely due to age regardless of the MID telling me.

OP you have some time or when your MID tells you to do so.

^^considering my TL is garaged 100% of the time....i'm not necessarily in a huge rush to go off and cough up a chunk of change. if i ever reach 105K it'll be a LONG time before that happens. though it does lurk in the back of my mind (the TB replacement job). i may hit the MDX TB job before the TL gets one
