2006 TL common problems and a few questions.
Any major problems with the 2006 TL (6MT), no NAV.
Would be interested in one with about 30-40K miles to keep for 10 years or so (150-200K). Just wondering what to expect out of them. Not concerned with rattles, squeaks or routine maintenance, but more along the lines of drivetrain dependability, rust, anything else...?
Took a peak through the Sticky for the Recall and TSB list already.
The car would be a daily driver year round (snow snow snow). With decent snow tires I imagine it would do allright. Maybe some can chime in.
The timing belt schedule for 7/105K, is that pretty reasonable or should I plan for it earlier?
Thanks

be on the look out for several things.
clutch. you dont know how well the previous owner(s) drove. clutch could have been beaten up, and you wouldnt know it. We have self adjusting clutches, that means the user doesnt know when it will go out until it goes out.
transmission - Most honda Manual Transmissions have a 3rd gear grind/popout. this dates back to some early Honda's. S2k's and civic SI's are known to have this problem as well as third generation TL's.
I replaced my MTF with GM syncromesh fluid Friction modified and it has cured my 3rd gear pop out.

the 7 year 105k for the timing belt is reasonable as most people generally get it replaced around that time ... age is generally more important than mileage IMO. set aside around 1k for the service though

GM Syncromesh, lol...
The TL will replace a 2000 Prelude and that brought back some memories. It had some grinding 1st to 2nd when cold and the magic cure was the GM Syncromesh.
The timing belt I was planning on doing myself. Speaking of which, are these cars fairly easy to work on? Upon opening the hood there's a wealth of plastic covers...
I did all the maintenance on the Prelude myself, clutch, TB, wheel bearings and a ton of engine oil seals. Would like to go the same route with the TL and keep it away from the dealer.
One more thing about the tranny, is it the same transmission as the one in the Civic SI by any chance?
Thanks for all the feedback.

i threw away all my plastic covers.
just bare engine remaining!!!!!
good, you do know about the 3rd gear grind and the GM syncromesh fix.
and it is pretty easy to work on. my car never sees the dealer, as well.
dont know if its the same tranny, but most honda MT's have this fault.
