2005 versus 2007 through 2008

OK, I have a dumb question, but searching for the answer is difficult.

I am looking at used TL's. I like the 2007/2008 TL-S but it's pricey. I noticed that if I just want a V6-6 Seday, the 2005's and 2006's are MUCH cheaper.

Here's the question. The HP spec for the 2005 is HIGHER?

Same RPM, same compression, same bore x stroke. What am I missing? Did they make a change that helps low end torque? Or did they do something in 2006 due to emissions that reduced power?

no, the testing was changed.

04-06 auto's put down about 210 to the wheels.
04-06 6MT's put down about 220-30 to the front wheels.

07-08 base auto = about 210whp
07-08 tl-s auto = about 220-230whp.

I'm not sure how much power the TL-S 6MT puts down but its more than 230.

Sorry, been drinking and put wrong title.

2005 versus 2006. The 2007 and 2008 TLS are a 3.5 Litre, totally different engine.

2005 and 2006 are same dimensional specs on a 3.2 but HP and Tq are different. So the question is about them. Apologies to all.

OK, been drinking. I realize the TLS is a 3.5L. Sorry, i'm stupid.

OK, the question is about the 2005 versus 2006. Apologies to all, this is all my fault.

I don't remember that happening, but basically between 2005 and 2006 everything in reality is the same? Just test numbers? Seems like a pretty big difference.

That's perfect, thanks.

So if I get an old 05 or 06 I am still getting the same stuff. Cool.

Hope you didn't have to get up early for work today. Remember if you want a 6MT then you will have to get an 04-06 cause they're not available in 07-08

Would love a Type-S, but I am not sure they are worth the money. They are pretty rare and when someone has one, they list for well over KBB.
I can get a 2006 TL 6MT for like 18K, but a 2007 Type-S 6MT is more like 26K or 27K either with around 35k-40k MILES. Having a hard time justifying 7 or 8 thousand dollars differencs for one year newer with betters springs and swaybars.

And nope, not working this week, vacationing in UP Michigan.

The fogs in the lower grills were introduced in MY 07. The 06 still had the fogs integrated in the headlight housing.

You are correct about the TPMS. There was also a torque steer management system put in place for the 06.

Many prefer no TPMS and consider not having it a feature. I have a tire pressure gauge and know how to use it. If you live somewhere that it's beneficial to have a winter set of wheels and tires it's better not to have TPMS unless it's auto-learning, but I don't think Acura's is? Else you end up with a flashing indicator on your dash that lets you know you are running your winter setup. Unless you have a friend that has the scan and program tool.

So far as i know apart from performance the 07-08 TLs also have the auxiliary input for mp3 players, and the opt backup camera and some cosmetic changes like taillights and the grille size/bumper so I think those are some things to keep in mind. Aux in 04-06 can cost upwards of 150 (USA spec makes one specifically for Acura/Honda) and that backup camera is of course pretty useful. I assume performance will be nearly identical Acura wouldn't have made a mid cycle refresh with a drastic performance change (except for the Type S)

Thanks all. I appreciate all the info.

I find out, hopefully tomorrow, if I need to start shopping for another car.

If I do, I will try for a TL-s (stronger engine, better suspension) but if they keep going for 27K I think I will save the bucks and grab a low mileage 06 that comes up for sale.

not that expensive to upgrade the suspension, to exceed the performance of the type-s (a good spring/shock setup would probably do)

but now the engine, yeah.... that's not going to come exactly cheap...., so better normally to start with a stronger engine
