2005 Acura TL transmission reset: any risks?

Hi,

I'm looking to reset my TL's transmission. I know you can floor the gas pedal for 30 seconds and it will reset it. I'm just curious if it is safe to do this. Are there any risks involved? Can I somehow break my transmission by doing this?

Thanks

In simplification : This procedure just resets computer that responds to gas pedal position. There is no way that it can break anything, and it will not fix anything.

The only advantage is that car feels more 'sporty' for short amount of time, until it 'learns' normal driving habits (and in city/highway traffic, it means 'slow and boring').

My car has been downshifting rough at speeds under 35mph lately. That's why I was thinking of doing this to see if it would help. Sounds like it won't?

Your transmission sounds like it's on its last legs

A better option is to try and replace the pressure switches and do a fluid change. If those don't alleviate the issue. :rip:

It upshifts fine and downshifts fine with speeds above 40mph, so it could be the pressure switches? Hopefully not a new transmission.

if that doesn't work pull the ECU fuse and back up fuse from under the hood for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

By rough you mean that you can feel car slowing down when it shifts? If so then it's fine.

Do pressure switches and atf anyway.

Yes, it almost feels like the car is burping or something when it downshifts with speeds under 35mph. It's hard to explain. It's just a rough downshift, you can feel it jerk.

Thanks, thoiboi, I'll probably do that this weekend.

Did it happen in 3rd gear? My green "d" light kept flashing one day and it turns out it was the 3rd clutch pressure switch? Don't know the exact name but was having the same problem as you. Thoiboi right as awlays - pressure switch
