Question

Talking about Bimmers...my friend Tony got a 2004 stock 540i more than a year ago...anyways he had so many problems during first 6 months (water pump, transmission, strange electrical problems) that his dealer agreed to replace his car with a new one. Ah well..my friend turned down his offer and decided to upgrade to a 745i . After 3 months or so his new 745 got some strange software problems and than again electrical problems...his dealer shrugged and replaced (again) this 745 with a new one.
It looks like this last one is a lot better as my friend has not complained about anything else.
BMW reliability is rated below average by Consumer reports however their resale value is rated among the best, don't you find this strange?

My wife has a 1996 328i automatic. In 2003, we spent over $4,000 on maintenance and repair bills on that car. Last year, it was over $1,000. I've been trying to convince her to get a TSX. I would never buy a BMW for myself. I'd much rather have what I've got or a Mustang, 'Vette, or CTS-V Cadillac.

I'm glad I read this thread--push the switch to turn off the whatever--stability control, and get better acceleration. But suppose that isn't enough for me. What can I do to make my '06 TL faster? Like 0 to 60 is less than 6 seconds?

And there's something wrong with American?? Ever heard of the small block Chevy? One of the finest engines of the last 50 years. Or the original Chrysler Hemi's?

I could go on, but you get the picture. There are good and not so good designs from all parts of the world. Doesn't matter whether it's Japanese, American, or German, or whatever. Finally, ever wonder why you never see anything in the top three classes in drag racing power those cars except American engines? It's because they are the best for their classes.
