2004 TL what models did Acura produce

I just picked up my girlfriends old car which is a 2004 TL navi. I went to get insurance on the car, and State Farm told me I have the Type -S. I thought the car was the base model with navi, not an A-spec model.

2004 model year was just the base model, not the TypeS

TypeS was/is available 07 and 08

yeah def talk to her about it, make sure she doesnt give you higher rates because of it

i know wikipedia is not an official honda/acura site, but this is the closest thing i could find.. LINKY. print it out and show her..look at 2007 it says..

The most notable revision is the return of the Type-S edition of the TL
hope this helps.

Did you give her the VIN number? That would be the most accurate way for a quote.

Yeah I gave her the VIN#. Thats what trips me out. I am going to call her again and double check she was hearing me correctly.

2002 & 2003 also had the Type-S (2nd Gen).

Then (as noted) TL-S returns in 2007 & 2008.

I wonder if they are mistakenly thinking the '04 is a 2nd Gen MY??

Thumbs up

LOL, looks like your insurance agent barely passed her insurance license examination.

Insurance agents sometimes do not know what they are doing. One agent I asked if there were discounts for having LOJACK, he didn't even know what that was.

Maybe you should go with Geico if you like cavemen.

Funny, I had to argue with my insurance agent that the engine disabling chip in the car was a security device. She said that only an alarm is a security device as it prevents the thief from stealing the car. I was all nuts about the fact that the alarm does nothing from preventing the thief at all. But the chip in the key disables the engine from starting that prevents a thief from really driving the car away. Argh lousy 5%.

Tell her you have this option (see link). That should get you the lowered rate.

Unofficially, the '04/5/6 6MT is the Type-S

Really?

I thought all the Type-S Acura's had higher HP ratings than the non-S models?

I think they ('04/'05/'06 6MT's) are referred to as "Sport", not "unofficial" Type-S.

As in:

Base
Base w/Navi
Sport
Sport w/Navi

The '04/5/6 6MT has Brembo Brakes, thicker stabilizer bars, and obviously somewhat faster acceleration.

Unless the car is debadged, you'll see a red "Type S" on the trunklid.

Hence "Sport".

Look here under "door/version":

Acura has *always* used the Type-S to denote more HP PLUS Sport features. The 6MT (pre-'07) had only a few of the Sport features (no improved exhaust, no less restrictive Cats, no HP bump, no styling cues, etc).

I had an '05 6MT which I traded for my '07 TL-S. Yep, the '05 had firmer suspension with larger stabilizer bars/ Brembos than the 5AT of that year, but nothing designated it as a Type "S". I haven't seen any increase in insurance from State Farm whether I had my '01 CL Type "S", my '05 TL 6MT, or my '07 TL-S. If anything, my '07 rates have dropped mainly due to additional safety features and crash test results.
Though it's hard to compare older people's rates and location factors.
