2004 TL vs 2005 TL

Hello all,

I am from the acura-legend.com forum and found Acurazine. It's time to replace my old 1991 Acura Legend and I'm looking at the 3rd gen TLs. What I would like to know is if it's worth paying more for an 05+. (There is a thread about this but it is several years old and doesn't have much information). I noticed there are 106 Technical Service Bulletins for the 04, but only about 45 for the 05. Thanks for your opinions.

I wouldn't go for the '04 since it was the first year the new model was released... I got mine just because it was too good of a deal and was lucky that I don't have any problems with mine. Go for the 05+ and you should be way happier with the fancy tech upgrades too.

The only differences are the '05 has better seat cushions and leather plus a passenger side airbag sensor.
That's all !

There is also a difference in the transmission between late build model AT 05 TL's and the 04.

But if you want to claim it's worth paying an extra x dollars for an 05 for reasons a and b, then some other person will claim it's worth paying an extra y dollars for an 06 for reasons c and d, and a third person will come along and say screw that just pay an extra z dollars and get an 07 because it has e and f... where do you draw the line? I say just set a firm budget, then buy the newest and lowest-mileage TL you can find with that budget.

Some of the SRS stuff is different, computers are different on the 05+ models. For instance when I hook up my HDS up, it automaticaly knows I am working on a 05+ Acura, where 04 I have to manually enter the vin etc. There are a bunch of other small things you won't see.

Also the TSBs and Service news.... 04 was the 1st year, so they had a ton of updates that where included in the 05.

As a consumer, only diff you will see is in the price.

tru - I would go for the 05 also if the price and mileage is right.
on a side note I got a chuckle out of your name - teknoviking - made me think of the video a saw a while ago on youtube with this guy walking in the street with a camera crew dancing to techno.lol. Hilarious to this day

I also migrated from there over 4 years ago, loved my Legend.

I also love my TL. That said, get the newest, lowest mile car you can afford. At the risk of pissing off a lot of people here I have another suggestion. Why not look at an 05 RL as well. It's a little more car than the TL in some respects. It has not been a good seller and was deeply discounted when new and may be priced the same as the TL. Giving them a look is recommended because as good as the TL is, I think the Legend was better and it was really replaced by the RL. Either way, win/win.

I would trade my TL for an RL anyday if I could afford one. They are getting close to $20,000 now so the OP might be able to find one in his price range.

I went from a '91 Legend straight to a new '08 3G TL. Same color and all.

With the market the way it is, you can get a great deal, that is if you can find one.

WOW the RL's are really getting cheap. I may try and trade the TL for one.

I meant the passenger side airbag automatic activation indicator above the 4-Way flasher switch. Sorry.

the '04's had some tranny issues that are less prevalent in the '05 models
