I think he was implying that because of some 5AT tranny failures that have occurred lately. But that's a whole nother story. It can be avoided for the most part. Search: 3x3 flush and pressure switches.

Just a warning.....this forum is FULL of 04 5at failures. they seem to go around 70K miles or so......the trans used in 04-mid 05 cars id IDENTICAL to the one used in the 01-03 cars and we all know how that turned out....I have an 02 CL-S that has 2 failed transmissions within 100K miles......

Yea, I dont mind the automatic. I drive it like an old lady and so does my wife... Im really not worried like i said before about the tranny.. I do have a complete 04 TL for parts with good engine and tranny with only 71k miles. full interior as well standing in my garage, just in case something does go wrong with it.. Yea i posted the car up on craigslist... i am in between jobs now and its tough here in fl now so i we decided to post it up.. Plus ive owned manuals all my life.. I had a 2000 Honda S2000 also a 2004 BMW M3 6 speed,, that was before i got married. Now i try to take it easy..

Someone threw in a different cluster. good luck finding the actual miles now.
BMWs had a little tiny red light that appeared on the cluster if it was not the original. I wonder if Acura implemented a similar feature.

The transmission in the 3G TL (thankfully) hasn't failed nearly as much as the ones in the 2G TL and CL did. The transmission in those cars was unreliable. The 5AT in the 3G TL is reliable, just fussy. Failures are preventable for the most part...there's a huge thread about it.

Its not hard to notice the number of 2G TL trans failures vs. the number of 3G TL failures here on AZ. The failures of the trans in the 2G TL was/is highly publicized.

- There were a lot of transmission failures on 2G TLs. I don't think anyone will deny that.
- There are also lots of transmission issues on 3G TLs.
- The issues with the 3G TLs are preventable by changing out the fluid and the pressure sensors (a.k.a switches). The 3G transmission was redesigned and the clutches in the trans are sufficiently large enough to handle the task so the actual trans design is better. The problem in the 3G is with the fluid and the sensors.
- Even if the above preventative measures (fluid and sensors) are not taken, I believe that there are less 3G trans issues than 2G trans issues. (Again, I do not have hard numbers.)
