2004+ Acura TL Eyelid in the works.......
I am currently working on making a polyurethane eyelid for the 2004+ Acura TL. I am a mechanical design engineer so I’m very familiar with the auto industry and I want a perfect fitment like it should be on an Acura. Right now I’m going through the stages of laser scanning the headlight so the eyelid will have a perfect fitment. I am trying to decide between manufacturing the eyelid for the TL or TSX but if I get enough feedback I could put this into production in the next few months. Once I get the model completed I’ll take screen shots and post it in this link for everybody to give their feedback.

I would be interested in buying a set of eye lids for the TL, as long as you can manage to keep them the same color as my car of course.
But yeah I bet they would look nice, if you could photoshop some pictures of what it might look like it could help spark more interest.

I have to laser scan the headlights so the eyelid will be an exact offset of the lamp so there won't be any fitment issues. The laser scan and reverse engineering isn't cheap but if I'm going to do this I'll do it right so everybody is satisfied. I'll make it out of either polyurethane or abs plastic. They'll be injection molded so it'll keep a very tight tollerance and I figure they'll be black but everybody can primer then and color match them do their car. If you have a $35k car you'll want them color matched so they'll look clean and oem. I'm receiving the headlights this week so they'll be laser scanned next week so I should have pictures of the solidworks model posted in two week and I'll post pics of the laser scanning and everything too......

Ebay already sells a pair of eyelids that you have to get painted to match your car. Some people like them, some don't. I like the eyelids on the ronjon website, but last time I talked to them, they had cancelled plans to manufacture them. I bought the eyelids off ebay and plan to get them painted in the spring and put on. I will post pics then.

Do a search- RockBlocker came out with some last year, I have the CF on my car. It's real CF, and the fitment is perfect. He also had paintable versions. Some people say it does make the car look sleepy, but from a view from the top third, it looks agressive.

I think the reason they look good in the ron jon pic is because of the ron jon grill and ron jon body kit. Alone they don't seem to do it. Also the Ron Jon eyelids look like more for show and then take of for reg. driving. Covers too much of the projector. But I do like

Since you've got the mechanical design engineering background, access to laser scanning equipment, and I'm assuming some pretty good connections in plastics manufacturing houses, why not see if you can re-create the headlight housing? This way, you could sell them without the amber lenses, and thus would have people buying them off you like hot cakes.
I'm pretty sure I'm not in the minority when I say I'd rather buy manufactured headlight housing that comes the way I want it as opposed to opening up housing that has been sealed from the factory and is pretty much permanent. I'm still not a big fan of the oven bake method; when I do my clear-out mod, I'm going to do it on a used (or at least not the original) set in case anything goes wrong.

Yes that is a very good idea and I did mock up an eyelid for the tl and the damn cutoff on the projector is pretty high that the eyelid will have to be pretty narrow so now I'm rethinking this project but I'll make sure to keep you guys updated.

re
Ive that ronjon picture so many times and i find that eyelids would cut off alot of the lighting that the hids project but what if you can make a grill insert to replace the Acura emblem similar to the ronjon idea?
Maybe more ppl would be interested in modding there grill instead of the eyelids

Safety Car
nono I took a piece of vinyl sticker paper and stuck it on my headlights to see if the cut off would be affected greatly... conclusion is that it wouldnt....the highbeams would be affected slightly but u can still kill someones eyes with them on and the lids on the car

Wouldn't it be easier as to buy a set of these
http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...001838/c-10101
Then just trim off the part you don't need and then sand the edge smooth and then there you have your own eye lid? I did that on one of my car before. Took me like 2 hours of dremeling workings.....

I've thought about creating my own CF eyelids for the o4+TL.
I have drawn out how I want it to look like..
Only problem is that I have no experience in fiberglass or CF. Trying to research on making molds and stuff.. there is a lot of info out there. Can anyone provide some sort of help?
