2 Losses & 1 Kill!

I guess you can say I've been active lately..I'll try and make it short. Key word; "try". lol

1) Celica GT-S (I/E) vs TL:
This one was just for kicks because I know the guy. He used to own a E39 540i and just recently picked up a Celica GT-S. I didn't believe it till I saw it and sure enough, here was his new (to him) Celica. I can't believe he did it but he said that he got cause it's a 4-banger. Well I kind of noticed him driving around like he's hot stuff and I decided to ask him if he wanted to run. Of course he said yes.

~15mph roll -
I was in "D" while he was in 1st. I honked it off and he pulled a little bit while the car automatically downshifted. But once I got in gear, I pulled on him like he was standing still.

25 roll -
This was just a waste of gas...We ran from a 25 roll and as soon as we stepped on it, it was over. I pulled at least a bus length.

50 roll -
Same thing as the 25 roll...waste of gas.

*I have videos on my ipod, but I don't know how to upload them.

2) Bike VS TL. From a stop.

I had a bike pull up next to me at a light that was taking forever to turn green. He noticed me eying the bike and nodded his head while revving. I got the message loud and clear. . I asked him if he wanted to go on green and he nodded. My launch was "mediocre" to say the least, . He had pulled at least 3 car lengths on me before I was even out of first gear. I let off when the car shifted into 2nd. He destroyed me, as expected. . Afterwards I gave him a thumbs up and went on my way.

3) 03-04 Mustang GT Convertible (unknown mods) vs TL. From a Roll.

I washed the TL tonight for the first time in almost 2 months and felt the need to go for a drive afterwards. I pumped some gas and got on the freeway. The plan was to just set the cruise to 70 and coast to downtown and back. Well, the plan lasted for longer than I expected it too. . I was cruising along when I noticed a Mustang coming up, right behind me. He was LOUD. I had my music up and I could hear him. . It was just us for about a half mile. I cut out wide and he pulled up next to me. Well we paced each other for about two seconds and I heard him downshift and rip it so I punched it too!

75-105mph -
I was in D and put my foot down right when I heard him downshift. We stayed neck and neck till about 95mph where he pulled about a bumper length. Once the TL shifted into the 4th it was over though, I ran out of steam. Ironically however, he hadn't pulled more than 1/2 a car length when he let off.

60-90mph -
SS, 2nd gear. I yelled to see if he was ready and he nodded and signalled for me to honk. Beep, beep, beep, VROOM! We both took off perfectly! We were almost dead even the enitre time. I let off at 90mph and accepted my loss though. Once again, he (barely) managed to poke his nose out in front of mine. Oh well, I give him props. We gave each other a thumbs up and went our seperate ways into the night..

Nice runs. I am suprised the Celica GT-S didn't do better unless he was an auto and not a 6spd.

I think op meant he was in sport shift by the SS. I had the same experience with a GT stang ... I think he got an ego bust by not blowing the doors off a grocery getter. I had a few small mods though.

I expected to do better too, I guess you can blame the driver. Oh and the GT-S was stick. He stalled at a light right next to me.

Yeah, I meant Sport-shift. For the life of me, I can't think of what else SS stands for..haha.

It's always nice to surprise people.

Went from a 540i to a Celica?

He is gonna regret that for the rest of his life, gas mileage be damned.

And you sir, need a 6MT.

I feel the same way, trust me. At first I thought it was just a rumor, but sure enough the 540i had been replaced.

Gas mileage be damned indeed, the Celica will never compare to the 540i in any way. .

Yes I do. But my car won't be paid off for another 2+ years so I've learned to live with my 5AT for the most part.

*On a side note, if my car wasn't on payments I'd sell it right now and buy my cousin's S2000. AP2, ~50,000 miles, super-charged. That would be a dream come true.

I think he meant he started in 2nd. 60mph should be the top of 2nd in the 5AT, I believe it ends around 70mph.

I'm surprised as well that the Celica did not do better. Definitely driver error.

Sorry, I guess I should've been more clear. I started in 2nd gear at 60mph.

Correct.

Are the GT-S fast? The only car I really see being remotely fast with an N/A 4-banger is the RSX. Type-S of course.

The Celica GT-s can be fairly quick, yes. The Corolla XRS with the same 1.8L motor is a very close race with the RSX-s with equal mods. There are a lot of videos on Youtube under "magusownz" of his Corolla XRS. That thing is quick. I/H/E/Apexi PFC (Personal fuel controller) and it keeps up with bolt on/kpro RSX-s, I/E Accord 6MT, S2ks, etc.

I agree with what sonnick said.

A Celica GT-S 6MT is no doubt quick with the right driver. They weigh in around 2500lbs which is about 400lbs less than a acura rsx-s as well as being over 1000lbs less than your TL.

Stock Power to weight ratio is roughly 13.88lbs per HP for the GT-S 6MT
Stock Power to weight ratio is roughly 13.79lbs per HP for the TL Base 5AT

Even with the power to weights stock they are slow as balls...180hp and 130 lbs.ft can only go so far no matter how low the weight.

The Corolla XRS is that "capable" huh? I never knew that. I always thought of it as being a "chick's car" and just shrugged off any thought of it having potential. Maybe I should've got one of those instead of a TL. :theghey:

Maybe I'm just lucky. From a roll I've pulled pretty hard on two late model RSX's (type-s), both with intake/exhaust mods, and I've stayed within ~1.5 car lengths of an (unknown mods) S2000 from a 50-100 roll.

Or maybe I'm just dealing with incompetent drivers. haha

I don't know what to say to that. I may have won but I can't say that I didn't expect more of a fight from the GT-S.
