Toyota likes to think they are above the fray, with the Camry V6, ES and Avalon thrown in to take care of what they believe is their lite work (i.e.: Honda/Nissan/Acura/Infiniti)....all while focusing on the BMW, Audi and MB crowd with cars like the LS, LX, GX, GS and IS-F.

i think toyota is more of an older crowd company. well, at least not the modding type.

i see nissans and hondas (which includes acuras and infinitis) hooked up, but i hardly see any toyotas with mods (besides factory mods).

unfortunately, when it comes down to racing and performance, nissan beats honda (overall). when it comes down to economy and reliability, honda wins.

What a tool. The story about racing his wife's Aveo was a pretty good indicator of how that thread would play out. When he started talking about how less wind, 15 degree cooler temps, and a tenth better 60 ft would shave like 8/10 off his time, I had to stop reading. By the end of that thread he'll be projecting a close race with a C6 Z06. (If he isn't already)

You do realize that there is nearly a $50k difference in base prices, don't you? So the GT-R should be more substantial than the 370Z.
Dude, that was my point. Where do you think I live? Under a rock, and for your information, I went there cause I might buy one.

How much faster does it need to be as an upscale family car? That said, the new Maxima is as nice a car as its ever been (even more than my 02Maxima) and makes up for that thing that was the 6G Maxima.
Agreed, best Maxima to date, but I never said it wasn't fast enough, in general. Only said it never really got faster for 2 generations, meaning, I personally don't like the performance direction of the vehicle, seems underachieving. To be fair, there is no 6MT, and even at that, (it's only speculation for now) I still wouldn't doubt that it could be a beast at top end.

FIXED......'cause it's about as fast as the rest in a straightline. That said, Lexus has at least taken the IS a BIG step forward, which is something one really can't say with Infiniti and Acura when it comes to the G37 and TL. (Sidenote: Infiniti could remedy that with a G50! )

oh i think you misunderstood what i meant. no doubt the IS is fast straight line and can handle too it was 2sec?? behind the FWD TL-S (+1 for acura) and faster than the G35 on ____ (i forget)track. and the IS-F gives those european V8's a good run for their money.but those are the only two cars out of lexus/toyota's whole line up that could compete IMO.

honda/acura have the NSX/TL/RSX/SI/S2000
nissan/infiniti have the Z/G/GTR/SE-R's

didnt mention the supra b/c they were pre 2000's

basically what im trying to say is that toyota/lexus need to step their game up in the performance world. they already have the comfort/luxury world down they should bring it back just like how they did it in the 90's.

Its enough IMO. For a first attempt at lexus they did an amazing job. My friends mother(of all people) owns a IS-F. Boy is that a great vehicle. You get the best of luxury and performance blended into one package. I have driven it several times and let me tell you it is one amazing vehicle. Love the sound when the exhaust opens up at 3900rpm. I would buy it over a new M3. 8SPD auto is LOVELY!

^^ You guys are funny, seating there and compare who's better than who. It's all about marketing, which ever way that bring $$$ to the company. While everyone is fighting for the crown, Toyota tries to get the customers that don't like speed or performance, maybe a quiet ride with nice gadgets. More family oriented. With the top dogs, they have the F series to take care or compete with. And if you guys are talking about hp and performance, it goes to whoever has a deeper pocket. If one wants to throw tenth and thousand of dollars onto a Camry, I'm sure it will be as fast or faster than any of your rides.
