1st gear on auto: any way to change shift point?
Hi,
This is my first post, so I am sorry if I missed this topic somewhere else.
I am looking to buy an 2005 Acura TL and I am debating between auto and stick. I don't like the fact that with the auto, it shifts at like 4k, even in the manual mode. Is there a way to bypass that so I can shift at redline? Otherwise, I think the 6 speed is going to be the way to go.

i guess you could just put it in L and thgen move it up once it reaches redline - not sure if it does. Ive gotten my first gear right at redline each time i punch the gas. i guess its just the way i drive since i hardly ever let the car shift up untill im near redline, im always punching the gas.

Well, maybe it is mostly in the tiptronic mode. That is what I am most concerned with. The convenience of automatic is nice, but I would like to have some control as well. The tiptronic would accomplish that if it didn't override you in first.

Just Floor it
I've only done this a couple of times, but I found that if you floor the accelerator, it does not shift out of first gear automatically. Then you can shift into second at redline.

It gets close to/ or at redline if you floor it in first gear in SS with the computer shifting for you.
Shifting at 4K? You have heard come mis-information. If my TL shifted at 4K RPMs in 1st gear all the time, I would have returned it to the dealer!!!!! I would never hit VTEC!

That is what it was doing on the test drive. In the tiptronic mode, it would shift prematurely.
