I think that is the point. How slow does a 747 feel going 650mph?

i dont really understand your question. If its going at 100, its going at 100.....

take a TL and a Ferrari and both make them go 120... which one is going "slower"???

however the TL is supposed to feel very stable at speeds around 120-140... this might be what you mean

Problem is that 4th and 5th gears are overdrive (ration is less than one) so it is harder for the car to accelerate, and takes more time (ie what you say is slow).

I think that this is what you are feeling.

Many of us don't know because our cars would shake apart at that speed.

The 6-speed should be pretty fast even well above 100mph. Auto suffers from tall 4th gear.

Manuals have two overdrives as well. What matters is the overall ratio when taking the final drive into account. The auto has a shorter (numerically higher) final drive ratio than the stick.

Try to use SS at 3rd to speed up. You'll feel it fast. About 6300 RPM, it suppose to reach 100 MPH. (Redline is 6800, about 109 MPH)

I guess your TL is around 400 miles, right? U gave up the break-in?

Re: 120 mi/hr

Or SS at 3rd to 5100 RPM about 82 MPH, then shift to 4th all the way...

I don't know how to race cars. Kicking the pedal all the way down is the way to get fast speed?

You have to use the SS

If you want to accelerate briskly at top speeds you have to use 3rd and 4th gear in the auto. Actually, I feel like you can only get to top speed in 4th. What I find is somewhat scary at very top speeds is the very quick (too quick) steering response. The power steering just feels too over-boosted at speeds over 100 mph. You need to pay heed to the recommended change in tire pressure at high speeds.

This was a problem on the previous generation as well as the CL. I am not sure what third gear top speed in the 04 is but just like everyone else said, hold 3rd as long as you can then shift into 4th. Previous gen had third top speed set at 110 then the car felt like it choked up. Oh well who needs to go that fast anywat

Well, most cars are 'slow' above 100 MPH. My Firebird was good till about 115 or so before it seemed to 'slow'. You will have to change cars if you want something faster.

And, this car is quick up to that 100!!

The auto tranny won't kick down enough if you are curising at high-80's and slam the throttle. Even the SS won't let you drop to third. However, if you start at a slower speed and stand on it, you will see that third lasts much longer that what you can get the auto/SS to kick down to.

my 2002 TL-S does not feel very willing to stay above 90mph. It feels like it likes the range between 70 and 85 the most.
