12 MPG after exhaust???????

i know thers alot of threads about how much mpg youre getting and seafoming but this is just too weird so i had to make my own thread

i got the excelerate resonated exhaust installed about a montha ago

I drive around a semi city like area, alot of stop signs and traffic lights but i used to get 17-18 mpg

ever since the exhaust i get about 12-13 mpg ...anyone experience this after installing an exhaust? i thought the exhaust would actually increase mpg but 12 mpg is just ridiculous

anyone with solutions??

alot of people tend to accelerate a little harder after they put aftermarket parts on, mabie your driving style has changed

The same happened to me when I installed the GReddy EVO2. It is your driving style changing subconsciously...a CAI really won't help that much, but it might. I started with 12-13mpg when I installed mine...but now I'm 16mpg...

I don't think it should negatively affect your MPG by that much. I'm sure it's your driving style since putting it on. Give it some time and you'll be back to normal. A CAI won't do much, if anything.

try a master reset of the ecu- force it to learn the new parameters

You may need a shroud (spark plug anti fouler) on the O2 sensor if exhaust flow has increased a lot

pull the CLOCK fuse on passenger end dash for a minute to force reboot and relearn

I agree with everyone else. When I did my Stage 3 and then Greddy Evo2's I was ripping it left and right. Give it time till you get used to the sound. It may take some time but your mpg should increase over time. Do you ride your gears? Not sure if you have auto or manual but ease your foot onto the accelerator rather than punching it.

I disagree, 12-13mpg? With just an exhaust?

I really push my tl-s almost daily... and lowest I will get is 18-19mpg.

For once I agree with 01tl4tl (I'm just glad you didn't say seafoam, lol)

Yeah mine went down too after my ATLP V2s but I blame it on my driving style that has changed somewhat! I took a road trip & cruising at about 80-90mph I averaged about 26 to 28 mpgs but as you can see from my avatar...sometimes I went faster.

Is it possible that you or the mechanic could have left a rag or some other obstruction in the piping?

Surgeons do it all the time, and could have been easily overlooked

23-25MPG with my mods. What kinda rims and tires you have on the car?

When i had my 19"Nankang NS2 on Axis Hiro's I got down to 14mpg and then i went back to oem BOOM 22 mpg all day.

Not a good time to make 12-13mpgs

Exhaust does not need a reset of the computer because it changes nothing. It still burns the same amount of air and fuel for a given throttle opening.

You're making it easier for the engine to pump out exhaust, the mileage should go up at a given power level. Mileage will stay the same for a given throttle opening.

The only thing that has likely changed is the driving style.

A CAI will not increase mileage.

This has been brought up too many times..... MPG is directly related to average MPH. So for those of you posting that you get 30mpg with tons of mods, it's pointless. Driving style will always trumph everything else.

Reset your trip computer and drive like a grandpa. See what happens. I reset mine today after I filled up and drove super "softly" 10 city miles back to my house and managed to get 23MPG. Much better than the 16-18MPG I normally get with my leadfoot.

I put on his exhaust and I truly believe that his driving style changed. He does not NEED seafoam, although we may just do it. Looking at his problem before and after exhaust, nothing changed and its defiantly because he wants to hear his exhaust and lives in a semi-city with stopping and going.

Seafoam on anything with less than 150,000 mile is a complete waste of money period.

That's a great explanation. How about explaining it to everyone why Seafoam will make a difference in a practically new car.

I took the bait and seafoamed my car with like 70K on it. All I saw was some cool white smoke. Gas milage was still the same, didn't decrease/increase. Wasn't worth my time

I would say tune up or driving habits. Any check engine lights or anything? I would keep an eye on that.

Exactly. Like I said before, nothing changed since I installed it so really its driving habits or the exhaust which to my knowledge should not have that much effect on MPG.

I was behind you after we left my house and you had a heavy foot hahaha

and to the OP, has your driving habit changed? I remember when I first got my exhaust or CAI on my Jetta, I loved hearing that car but I hated seeing 16-18 mpg.

I'm not calling you out, I'm not even trying to be mean at all.

I just see too many people wasting their money, that's all. You could say I'm wasting my money on $10 a quart oil too. But I just wanted to know what you think you're going to gain with Seafoam in a nearly new Acura. Sorry if I came across the wrong way.
