I was quoted $300. It took me a couple hours to do it myself because I was taking pics and because I forgot one of the washers. Always double check your work before you call it a day. IMO, if you take your time this is an easy DIY.

 

The switches need to be replaced as part of a time based maintenance schedule. Every 2 years seems to be the life span of these switches. I worked as a drivability specialist at one time and I found very quickly that most people can't recognize a bad shift unless it's slamming into gear and harsh or unless there's a flair. As the switches get out of calibration, shifts are getting longer and softer and more wear is occurring without the driver noticing anything is wrong.

nope, did remove the bumper. weaved my hand in there and got it. IMO left handed people will have a better chance.

It's definitely not the base '04-'06. Mine took 5 minutes, didn't have to remove anything or jack up the car or even remove the tire.

You do not have to remove the bumper for the 06.

As IHC said you can probably do it without removing the tire or even jacking it up, it's really that accessible.

I personally, jacked it up and removed the tire just to have the room for my first time. It's exceptionally easy.

 

The procedure for an 04-06 is different from the 07-08. Some of the 07-08 owners removed the bumper. I did mine by removing the driver side front wheel. I wished it was the same as the 04-06.

 

My dealer didn't understand why I wanted to do this. The service manager kept telling me it would not make a difference and was not necessary. Almost convinced me out of it, but I insisted that I wanted it done. Then came pricing: service manager looked it up and the system showed 1.8 hrs. I told her that this was probably 20 minutes of work and she looked it over and agreed to charge me just 1/2 hour of labor. I ordered the parts myself and $45 of labor later and I was on my merry way.

 

I completed the pressure switches this morning.

It took about 30 minutes or so. next time around it may take about 10 minutes. very easy to do. If you have a deep socket 22mm socket you don't have to remove the "shroud" that can be a PITA.


Now to just find a fix for the annoying rattle/clattering I have at low rpms (1500-2200).

 

So my TL-S has 58K on it and I decided to give this a try. Had the dealership do it because I have been wanting to do this myself for 6 months and have not had the time to do it. They replaced 3 switches (the S has 3 - 1 for 3rd and 2 for 4th...I believe) as well as did a drain and refill with stock ATF. Overall impressions...hardly any. The whole reason I did this was because all my shifts are snappy and smooth but 2-3 is a bit slow and sloppy and it is still slow but does happen snappier. I am thinking the more drastic improvements must be from the Redline Type F fluid which I will try to do soon. I would not say that if you are doing the work yourself the pressure switches are a waste but certainly don't pay someone to do it.

It has only been about 30 miles since the work was done so I will post back after a week or so.

 

If your original pressure switches were still good, then at least you've got fresh ones. . . perhaps you could have gone longer. The problem is that it is hard to know if they are still good or not so its hard to know if it is too soon. You did the swap at 57k on a TL-S. Maybe that's too soon I did it at 115k on an 04 and it made a difference. I wouldn't say it was a complete waste though.

 

Agreed, it does shift better into 3rd but not like I was hoping it would. I bought the car with 36k on it and had no idea what it shifted like new. I will do the Redline soon and report back. Also, how anal is Acura with extended warranties and using aftermarket fluid in their transmissions? I know they frown on it but I have a full wrap extended warranty to 120k or 7 years and I do not want jeopardize my warranty over ATF should something ever go wrong in my tranny.

 

is this sensor loacate in the same location on 03 cl-s ?

Just changed my switches thanks to this thread. Will update once I do a test drive soon. 04 with 41k miles.

 

Ok so I changed the 3rd and 4th switches as well as did a 1x3 with amsoil racing atf

The car shifts much better. I am not able to tell when it is shifting and it no longer feels sloppy as it could be on occasion. 41k miles on my tranny (original and planning to keep it that way)

One issue I did have: After my test drive the 3rd gear switch was leaking. What we did was take it out, turn the washer around, test drive again, inspect, and it seems to have stopped the leak. Anyone else have this problem??

I have to travel for work tomorrow (100 miles one way) so that will be the ultimate test and I'll update on Wednesday after I return from that.

 

So it seems to be fine now after turning the washer around....anyone else have this problem?

 

Did you reuse the old ones? I didn't have any issues with mine.

 

I am not saying that it caused your leak, but the washer is meant to be install in just one way. This is true of all the washers too like engine drain plug, atf drain plug, atf filler plug.

Look carefully at the washer. Notice one side is very flat, has sharp edges, and shiny. The other side is frosted with smooth rounded edges.


The side that is frosted with smooth rounded edges = Against aluminum case.

The side that is very flat, has sharp edges, and shiny = Against steel plug (or against pressure switch in this case).

 

read throught the whole thread and still cant find part #'s for 2007 type-s pressure switches, could somebody please point me in the right direction for part numbers, and if i correctly understood, my tl has (2) 3rd pressure switches?

 

Page 8 on the how-to for 07-08 TL's shows you the right part#'s:

2 x 28600-RKE-004
1 x 28610-RKE-004
3 x 90471-PW7-A00

I just did this on my 08TL-S and I also felt the difference immediately. I have Amsoil "Racing ATF" in there for the past 3k miles. Things are much smoother and the "drivetrain vibration" most of us get in the high gear/low RPM range is much improved.

A little expensive maintenance with the oil + sensors but well worth it and now I'm all set for at least 50k miles.

These are the switches I need for my 08 3.2?
And what number are the gaskets?

Just want to make 100% before I order them tomorrow.

The Type-s and regular TL's transmissions are the same, so the part numbers for the tl-s will match yours.

 

i have a 2008 base and those are the exact same part numbers i ordered.

i haven't got around to doing it yet because i don't have a 22mm or 7/8 deep socket!

 

Definitely need one of those.

 

Small hands help too... it was a pain in the butt to get that thing off and then put in a new one.

I only paid about $68 for both of mine. Find the parts on www.acurapartswarehouse.com, print out the price on the website and show to the parts department at your local acura and the should honor that price. Works more me every time.

 

The position of the switches on the 04-06 allows you to just use an adjustable wrench but the 07-08 is not as easy. You need a deep socket to get to those.

 

It will still save you a bit doing the work yourself.

He owns an 08 so there are 3 sensors not 2. Hence the extra $40.

Great info ever... I will put this on my to do list.

 

I did this on my 3G TL earlier this week, it is a very easy DIY...everything can be reached from the Front Left wheel well and by turning your wheels to the left (even easier if you take off the FL wheel), although I did not notice a difference in my ride I do feel better about my transmission knowing I have done everything I can to extend its life expectancy! (I have also completed a 3x3 flush and replaced the transmission filter)

Next I plan on doing the above transmission maintenance to my 2002 MDX!
