08 6MT Type S vs 05 G35 6spd coupe
Hello to all!
My buddy just picked up an 05 G35 coupe and...well...lets just say he is quite boastful.
C&D says
08 Type S 6 Spd
0-to-60-mph time: 5.5 sec
Quarter-mile time: 14.1 sec @ 101 mph
I can't seem to find any reliable sources for the G35 times, on average i'm seeing 5.6 and 14.1, not sure what the trap time is...
He has a stage 2 clutch and i'm not sure if he has a full cat back. All I have is an AEM CAI.
It's super tricky to launch the type S. My ronjon's are off, i'm on the stock wheels! I rarely launch hard cause i know a lot of wear and tear occurs from a stop and hence i don't want to kill my clutch. I'm guessing i have to feather the clutch in and out depending on how much wheel spin i get, but for those with the manual any tips for launching, other than running from a roll? Also would the UR pulleys make that much of a gain to do some good for the type s? Any other mods recommended? I know he's RWD but who would have the Advantage on the launch? I'm guessing i would cause i have more weight in the front end? Let me know the best method for the best time!
Thanks for your input!

Well the UR Pulley would be great for quicker shifts; it doesn't add hp. As for the launching issue, I would imagine a RWD would be much easier to launch. For one, the TLS will have wheel hop (the amount of wheel hop depends on the driver and how well they can launch). As for performance mods, you should visit www.acuratlparts.com for a lot of solid products. Now for your race, I would think he would have the advantage because he is modded and you said you still need to work on your launching. I could be wrong though. So why don't you race him just for fun and see what the outcome is and then start modding LOL.

He will definitely have the advantage on the launch. FWD is inherently bad for launching due to the simple fact that under hard acceleration, the weight is transfered towards the back, taking it off the drive wheels, hence making traction a real problem.
You need to practice to see what works best. On the street, I can take off around mid 2K with minor clutch slipping with relative success. The TL will never be a good light to light car. I think you can probably take him if you get a decent launch.
PS: Make sure VSA is turned off.

it's pretty much gonna be a drivers race. work on your shifting, don't bog off the line, and you'll be fine.
PS.
1. fwd is never good for dragging (weight transfer)
2. fwd and rwd have equal chance to wheel hop. look at the design of the ZR1 and CTS-V that have unequal diameter half shafts so that there's no resonance for wheel hopping.
3. drop the pressure up front and increase it in the rear. that will help to reduce some weight transfer. you can go to 22lbs in the front and maybe 45-max in the rear.. but put it back to what you usually run asap.
4. preload the drivetrain so you're not shocking it

I've heard about the dropping the pressure up front and increasing it in the rear but just curious as to how effective it would be for example during a street race and a quarter mile run. Does it allow for a better launch? Also I'm not sure what "preload the drivetrain so you're not shocking it" means?
