07 type S question?

Hello, I noticed that the rear inside fender wells are some felt type material. I was wondering how they hold up after time. I cant imagine they would look good after mud, rain, snow etc. Thanks in advance.

i think i have the same "felt" type material in my 05 as well. so far, it has held up well. but then again, i live in florida and don't have to deal with snow and salt.

When you clean it, just use a good sprayer (powerwash the dirt out) and spray some Armor All tire foam on it and it will turn out nice and black. It holds up well and is the same felt that is used under your hood for heat/sound proofing.

I can relate to being a detailer fanatic!

This is the first car I've had that had upholstered wheel wells.

All 3rd Generation TL's have it. It is for noise reduction. No clinking if you spit out a stone, etc.

I wash it with a soft brush, car wash, and hose nozzle. It seems to be pretty tough but I am in Florida also and we don't get much snow (read: none). The only salt we have is on the table or in the ocean.

I haven't put any dressing on it yet.... I only have 7,000 miles. But, I am not a fan of ArmorAll vinyl dressing. I use 303 on areas exposed to the sun.....

This would be a good question to ask in the Wash & Wax forum. Since your question is about its durability, I will leave it here but you may want to visit that section for more info on cleaning.

Yeah they hold up fine, just try to use a high pressure washer as noted for best results. I once owned (please dont flame me for this ) an 02 Ford Focus and it had the same things and they held up fine over time. Funny that you say the wheel wells are your pet peeve. One time I waxed my car all up to take pics and I actually took all the wheels off to detail them better, and make sure the wheel wells/brakes/coilovers were all perfectly clean.... Borderline OCD

thanks everyone. I did not realize all Tl's had this. I detailed an 04 a couple years ago and cant recall. Maybe they looked so good I passed em bye. I take my wheels off once every 3 months to clean everything. You should see me with my Suburban. It takes all day. I uses 303 also and every once in a while I use Armor all detailers tire spray. does a good job on hard to get areas. I have also been known to use engine cleaner/degreaser/detail on the really dirty ones. If they are real bad I will paint them.

Note - My 2005 TL had the plastic fender wells in the front and rear, not the felt, so I don't believe all 3G TLs have this. Maybe just for 2007? I dunno. This is my first car that has had them.

I have an 04, and I have the felt material. I also use a high pressure hose for the wheel well. As far as shining it, I spray something like Armor All on them before drying.
