07 TL type-s VS New Mustang GT

Ok so I did a little run with one of those Olive'ish green (actually like the color)mustang GT's last nite and must say that I was impressed that the type-s held its own against the GT with its 300hp and 320 lb/ft of torque, it was a manual too.

This being a highway run of course. He did manage to get the jump on me but I wasn't really trying to race til he tried to leave me. Anyways I think with a couple of bolt on's I could of had him. Yea yea I know with a couple of bolt ons he would of probably walked all over me.

But my overall impression was not bad for a 4 door sports sedan against a 2 door sports coupe with more power.

The only way you can be remotely close(within 1-2 car length behind) to a newer GT its only from roll. From dig he'll take you. And at 100 mph and over he'll be zooming on you.

I used to have a '97 Integra 4-door automatic (non GSR), with I/H/E, and 17's. One night, I had one other person in the car with me, and a guy in a Mustang GT (he had a manual) with 4 people total in his car, went at it on a back road. I held my own. No one got more than 1/2 a car length on each other, and after about 1.5 miles, he mis-shifted, and I ended up taking him. Don't ask me how...but it happened.

Are you sure the one you raced was a newer 2005 body GT?

Actually, it's not too surprising. Mustang GT will do 0-100mph in about 13.2-13.5s, which is similar to the new Honda Accord Coupe V6, which is slightly slower than the TL-S 6MT. Also the fact that the drag coefficient of 0.38 of the mustang doesn't help its top end acceleration either, versus 0.27-0.29 of the TL.

Nice run btw!

I didn't say I won. I was directly behind him most of the time and there was a passenger in the GT I was alone. That all contributed to the outcome. I was just proud it could hang. Honestly my VW I traded in was faster than my type-s. But who cares. For such a nice fully loaded family sedan I was pleased.
