07 TL-S Sport Seats

Hey guys...

Just picked up a 2007 Carbon Bronze/Ebony fully A-SPEC except for the body kit.

Question is, I had a 04TL 6MT and an 06TL 6MT, and this is my first TL-S.

Is it me, or are the seat bolsters too much and too stiff on the new TL-S? They are making my back really soar. Im not fat, but not small either. 6'3 225lbs. The bottom of the seat cushion seems even more comfy than the previous TL, but Im not so sure about the backrest.

I'm sure this could be done, but does anyone know for sure if the backrest portion of a new standard TL could be fitted to a TYPE-S? I have the ebony interior, so I know the silver two-tone part would not carry up the back of the seat if i installed a new backrest portion. I would keep the bottom portion from the Type-S, but install a standard TL backrest and keep the TYPE S headrest. Does anyone know before I have to call my dealership and look like a jackass asking the question?

Thanks!

BTW..this car is frickin day and night better when compared to my 06 6MT. With the A-SPEC, this thing handles so much better. Hardly NO torque steer, and it turns pretty flat when cornerning. Really appreciate the extra HP from the 3.5. Can't wait to install the intake soon.

yeah...LOL

first thing I di was take all the lumbar out. It only has the little button on the side of the seat at the bottom, push left for lumbar out and push right for lumbar in?

There is no other adjusment like the BMW M3 that allows you to move the bolsters in and out, right?

nope wish there was.

for your original ?... i am not sure i have the balls to take my seat out and let someone fiddle with it. i know a lot of people in my area are afraid to mess with them due to the airbags and safety issues...

crap, i forgot about the airbag being in the seat. that could pose a problem. Ive taken the entire seat out of my previous two tl's and never had a problem. Although i wasn't in a side impact collision either (fingers crossed).

I wonder if just putting some leather treament/softener would help.

i just called my sales person and she had no clue about switching them. She told me to check with service, and my service guy isnt there today

what a-spec parts do you have on the car .. you stated full a-spec aside frrom the body kit ... but the only other thing out for the 6 speed would be the wheels

since there is no TL-S 6 speed specific a-spec suspension out yet .. only the suspension for the AUTO

thanks ive been looking to get the a-spec suspension but was told only the auto setup was out ..

Per my dealer, they installed a-spec suspension and a-spec sway bars on the car. It is a definite difference from a stock Type S. It also has the a-spec chrome look rims. As soon as I get the car back (had to go in for a couple issues) I will post some pics.

You could get a sheepskin for the drivers seat. I have one in Arizona because of the heat and it also makes the seat MUCH softer and looks fine if you go with a custom fitted one that matches the color. About $200-250

i did the sheepskin thing in my navigator and ended up hating it and ripped it out LOL. But thanks for the suggestion. I know they do make those sheepskin runners that would mostly follow the two tone insert on the seat. Ill keep it in mind.

My coworker and I are prolly gonna take the seatback apart and maybe reduce the amount of foam. We are thinking that is gonna be the cheapest solution. He used to own a body shop so I trust him to help me.

Thanks!

hrmm im guessing that they used the a-spec suspension for the 6mt NON type-S .. because there is no type-S suspension for the 6 speed TL-S .. unless they used the AUTO tl-S suspension

id be curious to know which was used .. anyway you could find out ?

thanks

I am a pretty big guy (6' & 300 lbs) and I don't have any problem with the side bolsters.

Maybe the problem is that you don't have enough natural padding.... I suggest you go get about a dozen double cheeseburgers.

LOL...i think a couple cheeseburgers is the last thing I need LOL!

Im prolly just being a picky ass about the whole thing, but damn it, you buy a new car and you want it perfect. I think I just need to relax, drive it a while, break it in, put some leather treatment on it to soften it up. If not, then my bud and I will perform some outpatient surgery on the seat!

Hmm...My back really hurts with the lumbar all the way out. I have to have the lumbar almost all the way in. Did you try that?? That took care of it for me...

I have ebony and as you saw in my thread, I want a set of type S sport seats. I'd love to do the switch but we are all the way across the country from each other so I'm not sure how it would work but if there's a will, there's a way. Maybe we can figure something out because I would love to have a set.

I will definitely keep you in mind as a worst case scenario if I need to change out the seats. I dont think it would look stupid if you had types s seats in the front and regular seats in the rear. I think it might look a little silly though if I had regular TL seats in the front and the two tone in the rear however.

yeah, we could swap em. But freight to his area isnt going to be cheap. Im just hoping I will adjust to the seats. Will just take time. I havent been with the car since Wednesday as its in the shop getting a scratch fixed, and fixing an annoying rattle in the drivers door. Plus, I may order an AEM intake and have it installed while it is in there if I can get it quick enough.

Hm. It would be cool to swap seats and I think the regular in the rear might not look all the weird. Keep me posted though because I'm definitely down for the switch.

Gee, 3 brand-new iterations of virtually the same vehicle in less than 4 years! Are you doing real well at the tables, or what?
