07 TL 3.2 v 03 G35x

so i was messing around with my friend ripping on each others car (both stock) when he said he could beat me in a race which is of course not gonna happen with his AWD boat of a car. we did a couple of rolling started murdered him by 2+ car lengths even when i was messing around with the slap-stick dropping it from 3rd into 2nd to feel cool the only time he even came close was when we hit a light and had to stop which with my slick tires all i did was fight for traction his awd got the jump off the start but i quick over took him. just thought id share my triumph

lol fight for traction in a TL o_O well damn... you must have the fastest 07 TL ever made, cuz i never have to fight for traction unless i'm on a wet road going from a dead stop trying to do a mad tyte burnout yo... x_X

but for real nice kill.

With TCS off, I spin all the way through 1st gear every time off the line if I want.

yeah, but you're a 6mt TL type S, of course you can... both i and the op (from his sig) have the 5at 07 TL base, and i've tried to spin as long as i can on normal road conditions (assuming how he was racing) and almost always gain traction once i hit 10 mph lol... just saying.

I have TL-S 5at and with TCS off I burn thru 1st and on some occasions chirp into second on ss mode, but I also have tires with about 50% tread or so...

Sounds like the X needs a driver mod. Is this TL a 5AT or 6MT?

I also don't think the 1st gen G35X is really a "boat" since it only weighs about 100lbs more the TL and has a heavily RWD biased AWD system. The only things holding back the X from pulling some really great handling numbers is the narrow and crappy all season rubber and non-sport suspension which rides 1" higher than a RWD G. The TL is definitely a more sporting car in stock form.

Wtf bbq?

Anytime I even try to 'launch' my 06 5AT I cant even get a squeak. In fact, it feels like I'm launching with 3 cylinders.

Is there any difference in trying to launch in 'D' vs 1st in tiptronic vs L?

I've never tried L..

then just proves that the type-s can spin through first and the 04-08 base 5at's cant lol

I know I have an S but with VSA off I will roast all through 1st gear and with SS on will chirp 2nd. But thats why I feather the gas when I launch.

I am kind of suprised by this outcome. I would have thought the G would win even with the AWD. A stock TL 5AT is a low 15 second car. Anything can happen on the street! Good kill.

My dad has a 05 G35x and he's pulled away from me pretty easily before when doing rolling starts. Not sure why your friend's G was struggling so badly.

The 03 G35X and 05 G35X are two different animals IIRC.....Correct me if I'm wrong but I wanna say the '03 is rated at 260bhp and the 05 is 280bhp. I've driven an '03 and I wasn't really impressed.

The 03/04 sedan was rated at 260hp, but put down the same power as the 280hp coupe of the same year and the later 280hp sedans. It was merely a way for Nissan to give coupe owners and newer sedan owners the idea that they're getting some extra for the money. Also, the 05/06 sedans are about 50 to 80lbs heavier. In 2007, the 280hp motors were revised to 275hp per the new SAE standard.

I thought the same thing...When my CL was in the shop, Rick Case Acura gave me an 07 TL AT for a week and it was a 15 secoond car.

During that time frame I would drive my wifes 03 G35 and it was considerably faster than the TL...From a start or rolling or at 40mph...

I had an '08 loaner for a week and couldn't believe how slow it was. Took forever to downshift on the highway after flooring it.

Is there any chance that the '07-'08s with the "revised" transmission are slower than the '04-'06s?

Not sure really, as I've never driven the earlier 5AT. It's too bad Honda can't make a world class automatic like the rest of the upper echelon car makers.

Oh I get you. Thanks for clearing that up. I test drove a few G sedans before I settled on an Altima 6-spd a few years ago (RIP) and loved the VQ. The 03x I drove felt significantly different (i.e. not as potent) than my friend's 06x. I never realized that they put down the same power regardless of the bhp rating.

That could be a possibility as the 03-05 accord V6 autos run consistanly faster than the 06-07 accord v6 autos. 06 was the 1st year of the accords revised tranny i believe.

I hear ya. That 6MT Altima was probably .5 seconds quicker than the G35X you drove and is right in line with what a 1st gen G35 6MT runs, assuming you get traction or it's from a roll. Probably at higher speeds (80mph+), the Altima would walk any stock 1st gen G. Less weight and less driveline loss makes a big difference.

I also agree about the VQs feeling different in the G's. When I got my G, it felt like a solid 14.7@95ish car. It felt a quite a bit slower than my 14.3@99mph 96 Maxima (VQ30) it replaced. The G felt stronger from 0-40mph, but after that, the Maxima felt like it had a lot more balls. The VQ30 is also signficantly smoother. Then I took the G to the strip and it ran 14.3s@98mph on it's 5th pass with no mods! It was as quick as my Maxima which took years to get it into the 14.3-14.4 range. Go figure.

Ran a Altima SE-R be4 and kept roughly 1 car length on it both times we hit it to like 100 or so before shutting down....Thought they were quicker than me 4sure, but then again could have been weak driver....anything can happen on the streets
