07 Camry

Any rumors on ACura/Honda having a 6 speed auto tranny ? I know that the 2007 Camry has a 3.5 liter 260+HP and 6 Speed Auto Tranny. I do not like the looks of it. But Acura/honda better up the specs on the TL. The rav 4 is even getting a 3.5 liter V6, the RDX would be a better choice then the RAV. But the CRV is going to going lose sales to thr RAV-4.

Honda/ACura better have a 6 speed auto in the works soon. Who cares if Honda/ACura have the same 3.5 liter engine. If they try to differentiate fro Acura too much then that limits Honda's choice of v6 engines. So lets say acura would use 3.5 liter for all v6 acuras. And 3.2 liter v6's for honda, then they are not on par as far as HP compared to nissan/toyota. The only differentiation between acura nad honda should be refinement and not engines. Lexus/ toyota are using 3.5 engines in their car lineup and so is infinity/nissan.

So now the avalon and camry has a better engines then the lexus 330.

ES330 has been out for quite a while... and you know... ES has same base as Camry... so when new Camry comes out, soon the new ES will come out with better specs overall, probably not performace.. currently camry v6 se and es330 have same engine.. right?

Either way, Avalon has a huge lag in acceleration when I test drove it..

The thing I hate about the ES is that it looks 95% like the Camry every year it comes out. It makes the purchaser feel like they paid a bundle for a upgraded camry. I can't tell the difference between the 2 sometimes either in the day or at night.

More gears isn't necessarily for more top speed.

okay, what else would they be for? 6th gear in an auto won't kick in until pretty high speeds right?

It would depend on the gear ratios, actually. An automatic NSX has a top-speed in the region of 160 to 165 mph (depending on which model year), but would it be fair to assume that instead of the 4-speed auto gearbox it had a 6-speed auto gearbox it would go, say, 190 mph? Nope.

I think and I dont swear on it...but more gears make for better gear ratios...so smoother and quicker shifting gears @ low speeds (so basically smooth ride) and then higher possible revs (since one extra gear) at higher speeds...

so more gears has its advantages on both ends.

Does it work like a bike where the more gears there are, the greater the strain is on the chain on the highest and lowest gears?

More gears mean that they aren't space out too far apart between the gears, provides smoother shifting left jerk when slowing from freeway speed as in these J series v6 engines and better fuel economy in the top gears.

Heck my 96 3.2 TL shifts smoother then these new five speed tranny that honda/acura uses. I was hoping that when acura/honda has the 6 speed auto they spend time developing it right this time.

My 96 3.2TL has 158K and so far no problems.

While on the subject of gears, I hope Honda does not get into the battle of having more gears is better for braggin rights. Like lexus did when the new LS 450 has 8 speed auto to outdo Mercedes with the 7 speed auto.

Whatever honda decides to do, wether it be a 6 or 7 speed auto ( I think 8 speed auto is just for bragging rights). Just do it right and make it bullet proof. When acura's first came out they over engineered, like the acura legend was.

I'd just as soon see Honda come out with a good, solid sequential-shift gearbox like Audi's DSG or Ferrari's F1 or BMW's SMG, and do away with their troublesome automatics once and for all. Surely a company with the production turnover of Honda's could justify spending the money to develop a transmission like that and use it across the spectrum of their product line.

6, 7, 8 speeds... good grief. Soon there will be so many speeds that everything (at least in the AT world) will be CVT, and then what?!?!?!?
