Just pay a trusted mechanic for a PPI, problem areas most likely would be transmission or maybe some steering/suspension parts needing to be replaced because of regular wear. The J - Series engines used in these cars run forever

Tranny is by far the biggest and most expensive one. A few users had their trannies give out at 70,000 miles while other users saw 200,000+ with no issues. It's a hit or miss. There's a bunch of other minor problems (leather/underbody) but those are pretty cheap. Don't bother worrying about them.

Listen for stupid creaks and rattles...especially from the glovebox and rear deck/sub area. My car has this stupid seatbelt mount rattle and Acura quoted me $550+tax, they can go fuck themselves.

Check if BT is working, the little unit is kind of expensive and if GPS is fine. Also make sure the audio deck loads up 6 discs and swaps between them fine. A lot of these cars have these annoying little electrical problems and they can cost an arm and a leg, especially at the stealerships.

Hahaha I had that glovebox rattle. I think it was 50% my fault / 50% Acura's. I noticed I had a bunch of shit in the glovebox and when I emptied it, it went away. So clearly a design flaw. And some of the plastic panels are pretty flimsy but it doesn't bother me too much.

All this transmission talk is not relevant if OP buys a manual transmission. Of course the odds of that are 1 in 20.

OP, buy a 6MT and then your biggest worry will be stepping in steaming piles of dog crap.

TL manuals aren't too rare.
TL-S manuals on the other hand, probably almost just as rare as manual Supras.

They're no less rare than I indicated. Estimates for manual 04-06' models vary between 2.5-5%. I based my odds on 5%. Wiki says 2.5%.
