06 6MT Accord vs 98 Max 5spd

So, my friend's buddy has a 98 Maxima 5spd with I/E. We were ish talkin' back and forth (all for fun) so finally got dirty last night. We ran 3 separate times from a dig. He launched about a half car on me each time and I ended up pulling at the top of 1st and once I hit 2nd was gone. Idk how many lengths but it was numerous..Also one run a 06 WRX with I/E/ECU (bad clutch) ran also from a dig. He obviously launched on both me and the Max..probably 2 cars by mid-2nd. I ended up catching him and pulled slightly in 3rd and the beginning of 4th when we shut down. I ended up 1 car length ahead.

Friendly races are fun and exciting and they were nice guys!

Nice runs you had there. How'd you think you would do if the WRX's clutch wasn't bad?

Nice kills! That Maxima is pretty quick from start....don't they have a little more torque then Accord/TL?

Nice kill w/the 4G Maxima 5MT. The results are what I would have expected.

Thanks. I expected the same results too. I figured the only way the Max had a chance was with a 50 shot but didn't want to sound like a douche cuz that's not me.

I think if the WRX had a better clutch it would've been pretty even. He may have pulled a little tho. Those cars are SO easy to mod it's almost insane. From the factory they are pretty quick, especially with the 2.5. They run out of steam stock tho because the turbo doesn't push enough air, but with only a couple mods that quickly changes. They have crazy torque too..

Oh, and Alex..the 4th gen Maxima's have 195 crank tq. However, despite this lower number, I think their torque comes before ours in the powerband.

Yup! The 4th gen maxima does have better low-end but thats where the advantage ends. I have seen many 5spd maxima 4th gens run 2.1 60fts!

It doesn't take much power to run a 2.10 60' in a FWD car. It just takes a good launch and decent traction.

Torque makes it much easier to run a 2.160ft or a highly abused clutch!

Ex-4th Gen Maxima owner here. The results of the race are about what I expected. Intakes don't do squat on the 4th gens and if anything, it slows them down. Believe me, I tested about type of intake available for those cars and in the 1/4 mile, a slightly modified version of the OEM intake works best. 4th gens are surprisingly light. My loaded 96 SE 5MT weighed in at on the Cat Scales 2940lbs. The base GXE 5MT models weigh in 2890lbs!

In stock form, my Maxima went 15.2@92mph. With a modified OEM airbox, y-pipe, and midpipe, it did 14.6s@96mph. With a JDM variable intake manifold, JWT ECU, y-pipe, midpipe, and the variable flow 2000 Maxima muffler, the car was doing 14.3s@100mph. Lots of guys with similiar mods were getting 14.0-14.2s@101-102mph. On 26" slicks, they're going 13.6ish@102mph. With VQ35 block swaps, they're going as quick as 12.8s@107mph! With a rather simple single turbo setup on a completely stock VQ30, you're looking at 11.5s to low 12s@115-120mph.

These cars have crazy potential.

Torque's the main reason why my old 02 Maxima SE (4AT) posted a 2.169 sec 60' time and my 07 AV6 (5AT) will NEVER!!

the 4th gen max is no problem, but the 5.5 gen is the one to worry about as those years came with the 3.5 motors

In stock form that is true. As a former 5.5G owner myself, I will say that an automatic version should kick around an AV6 5AT with relative ease with the MT running similar to the 7G AV6 6MT.

That said, never underestimate a well modded 4G Maxima.
