So on the way back from lunch today, I got to race a work buddy that has an 06 Mazdaspeed6. He just got new rims (~17.5 lbs ea), and we pulled up to a red light. I looked over, and he was ready for the race. I flip the tranny into manual mode, and open it up when the light turns green. Once we hit 60, I look over and see that I'm about 2 1/2 cars ahead of him.

I think the odds were heavily stacked in my favor. He had 2 passengers, and I had 0. When we got back to work, he said the A/C was on, and he didn't WOT. I did have the windows down and the sunroof open.

Question for you guys: With all things equal (no a/c, windows up, no passengers), WOT, both stock (except for his rims), who do you think would win the race?

i think youda beat him. I can beat a 07 G6 6spd at a rolling 20... but off the line im done for......

i think even if he didnt have his AC/passengers, you still woulda won... but thats just my - im not a gear head so idk everything about the 2 of these cars.

Is Speed 6 not regular Mazda 6, the Speed6 have 4WD I4 2.3 single turbo 270bhp and 280tq.

but even he got no passnager and A/C off you still pull him at least 1~1.5 car,the car is too heavy and the turbo lag is crazy im pretty sure a stock TL can kill Speed 6(stright line).

FYI the regular Mazda 6(M6 ) have two motor one is I4 and other one is V6 with 200ish hp 6AT that car is pretty nice but the suspension is soft as hell.

i read a while back before we bought our TL about the Mazdaspeed6 coming out...it looked pretty cool, but i found the TL much more appealing...i've been eager to race one now and guess i don't have to worry when i get my chance...

Based on the site you linked, here's what I'm seeing:

6: 280hp/260tq, 3589lbs

TL: 258hp/233tq, ~3650lbs (I have navi + aspec lip kit)

On paper, the Speed6 should win. Plus he's got a MT and I have AT. What makes you say there's crazy turbo lag on the Speed6? Rumor? Driven one before? etc

A properly-driven Mazdaspeed 6 MT should spank most 3rd Gen TLs, manual or auto, unless the TL is FI'd. Check out the timeslips posted in dragtimes.com at http://www.dragtimes.com/Mazda--6-Drag-Racing.html

It lists stock Mazdaspeed 6's running mid-to-high 13's. I haven't seen any non-FI'd TLs run times below 14 seconds.

Judging by his trap speed you would beat him from a 2nd gear launch, their top end is weak if he pulled a 13.5 at 99mph.

The Mazdaspeed should make short work of the TL

The Speed6 should make quick work of any stock 3G TL’s---Auto or Manual.
The only stock TL that would have a chance would be a TypeS.
These cars are awd and launch very hard and have 280 ft/lbs of torque at only 3000 rpm.
The Road and Track article had a disclaimer on the Speed6 acceleration data because they used 91 octane gas and the car did not make full boost.

Well yes I did driven one b4 have you? and I actuelly raced one too, pulled him about 3 car but his car stock and my TL modded(AT) and Im pretty sure his car is a speed6 cause he is my fd and the car feel heavy when I test drove his car

IMO I dont think 2more passenger + A/C on I dont think it will make 2.5 car different.

eh i got my ass handed to me by one the other day. he seemed to be modded but so am i
