'05 TL Tranmission Replacement: What are my choices?

Hey fellas,

Buddy of mine needs to replace his tranny after $200 worth of effort to fix the slipping problem. The car has ~140K miles. We believe the problem resulted from clogged line at the secondary filter (at banjo bolt); the filter glue broke into pieces and clogged the line.

1. used 04-06 tranny - last on my list
2. used 07-08 tranny - direct swap? what's different about it?
3. reman 04-06 tranny (w/ warranty)
4. rebuild 04-06 tranny (w/ warranty)
5. used Accord V6 tranny any better?

Lmk what you all recommend.

My hunch would be with #2, only because it would be newer, might have the kinks worked out engineering wise (no idea the difference). All is relative to the miles.

Used transmission, how do you even go about trying to find one?

My transmission is currently fine, but I read these transmission blogs so that I know what my options are, should I have transmission trouble.

One option I am curious about is H&A Transmissions...they do remanufactured transmissions. (http://www.hnatrans.com/) Look into it, and if you do go that option, please post your experience, and price paid.

Definitely would go used, lowest mileage you can find. Very few shops can properly rebuild Honda automatics. I found out the hard way with my old '90 Accord.

Isn't the 07-08 transmission a RL unit.
Maybe you could look into that.

Buddy of mine is going with a reman unit w/ 3yr/36000 but unclear whether labor is cover under the warranty if I claim it in the future. Is that something y'all think is important?

So where did you get the reman transmission?
What is the transmission cost / labor cost breakdown?
Price includes core, so total price will be less when you get core deposit back?

It's my buddy's car and I was working on it to revive it but no luck; he put it in the shop.

I don't know the price break down but it's a lump sum price that includes the labor if he has to put it in the shop again. However, I estimated to be $1200 labor and the rest on the tranny.

Price includes the core, meaning that the shop keeps his old tranny. I didn't get clear answer to where the tranny is coming from.
