'05 TL-rrp

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site. I'm also new to Acuras and the car world. Just turned 16, got a hell of a deal on an '05 Acura TL RRP. I'm going to be honest and say I don't know as much as I'd like to about my car or cars in general, and I'd love to learn more. I figure this would be a good place to get advice, everyone seems pretty knowledgeable and clearly has the same taste in cars as myself.

I'm a little confused by the types such as Type-S, and as embarrassing as it is, I don't know if mine is or not. We just bought it at an Acura dealer about a month ago, and I'm trying to figure more out about it. I know it has a factory-made wing spoiler on the back, and front and rear low spoilers. I will try to get a pic up soon.

I recently got a job to continue paying it off. I would like to use the extra money to improve my car aesthetics. I know I would like to do something in terms of tinting and taillights/headlights. Not sure what would look best on a RRP though. Any suggestions or other ideas? Thanks

Welcome!! Post pics when you are able too.

Yes, as con4tant posted you have a base model, type-s were only available in 07-08.

How many miles do you currently have on your TL, glad to see more RRP pop up. lol If you want to improve exterior styling than go for the Aspec bodykit, but move quickly as our cars being 7 yrs. old already the accessories are becoming discontinued.

I know that the rear bumper lip is discontinued but the front and side skirts are.
I believe there is still a group buy going on right now which you can get the body kit shipped for like $800

welcome to the site, you can register your color here https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/tl-owners-please-chime-855960/ thnx.

Like everyone else said Type S only available in 07-08 model, Type S offer a 3.5L motor 286 HP and 256 Foot pound Torque instead of 3.2L with 258hp and 233 LB-FT. Navi is standard on every Type S, they got red LED instead of blue in base TL. Brembo brake is standard regardless AT or MT, Other than the two tone interior found in Type S they have dark waffle wheel and smoke side market and taillight, small details such as Type S on the steering wheel, Type S logo on the head rest. Lets me post some pics of my Type S so you can see the difference with yours.

Thanks, I really like the smoke taillight look. Is that just how type S comes or is that available?

It's the type-s tail lights that come stock. You can find some on here in the black market or eBay. There's a few venders here that customizes them as well.

Welcome and congrats! RRP is a gorgeous color

The lower skirts you're thinking about are considered part of the A-Spec kit that was an option when the car was brand new.

As for tint, do it on the windows but not on the headlights and taillights. Search around the website for a week or so and see what other people have done to their car before pulling the trigger on any mods.

Good luck

I really like the idea of quad exhaust tips. I saw a video of a guy with them on a TL, and plus it sounded amazing. Any ideas of where to go to get this done, and can I do it with a low rear spoiler?

The exhaust openings on the Type-S are wider than the base. You would have to cut your existing bumper and then get a Type-S A-Spec rear lip to cover up the cuts and such.

You could just buy smaller quad tips but finding a set that will fit without modification may be a daunting task. Search around for the thread, I know it's around here somewhere. It gives one or two different tips that fit with no problem. Granted you'll have quad tips after that, they won't look as good as the true larger tips.

OP quad tip exhaust is depend how far you want to spend, some member here just buy the quad exhaust tip and weld it on stock muffler or you can go with Catback system like XLR8 or ATLP they are similar in price but both are feature quad tip and single tip. FIY if you choose to buy a quad tip exhaust then you will need to swap your rear bumper into Type S bumper other wise it won't fit on the base bumper.

Curtis, I hate to stereotype, but you're young. I got a pretty nice car when I was 16 as well and I rushed into modding and had no idea what I was doing.

Don't blow your hard earned money on little shit that will end up being a waste. I'm not saying the quad tips aren't worth it, but that money could be put towards other things as well

Try to get a list going of parts you see here on Acurazine that you would want for your car. Try to envision your TL "finished" and what parts it would have on it. Personally I wanted everything on the outside of my car to be white or black. Over the 4 years I've owned my car, I've done my best to accomplish that look.

Whatever you do, don't get trigger happy with purchases. You'll kill your bank account and kill your love for the car if you mod too quickly.

As long as you keep your cool and don't get cocky (which you don't seem to be), all of us are willing to help. Just don't forget that 99% of the questions you have were answered years ago. Google is your friend and if you truly can't find the answer, let us know

When the Type-S wasn't available his model wasn't a "base" unless he bought the car with navi or w/o. An 04-06 w/ Navi was the top-of-the-line then .

CLtotheTL : That actually makes a lot of sense, I will make sure to be cautious. The owners before me were just old people, and I would really like to personalize it, but I definitely want to do it right. I think the RRP color makes it a little more difficult to personalize, because I'm not 100% sure what would look best on it.

For the list, as you suggested, I would like to think about tinting the windows, and something with the lights like type-S. But again, I'm not sure if these would look as good on a RRP as the would on a black or white TL.

Tinting the windows was the first thing I did to my TL as well as my previous cars. It looks great and keeps the car cooler in the summer months.

The 07-08 Base or Type-S tails would look great on a RRP. The Base tails have the white sections that would help break up some of the red on the back of your car and the Type-S tails have an awesome smoked chrome bezel around the housing. You really can't go wrong either way.

Whatever you do, don't tint any lights

Thanks, I was actually considering tinting lights before, I'm an amateur. Haha so for the windows, about how dark in terms of percent, and should I do all windows? Around how expensive should I expect, so I know I'm not getting cheap tint that will bubble soon.

Price depends on where you go and what brand of tint they use.

As for percentage, each state has its own laws about how dark the tint can be. Here in NC, a car cannot have window tint read out darker than 32.0%.

You all asked for pictures, so I'm going to attempt this. Here she is, freshly washed.

I am considering the black and clear type-S taillights and side markers, as well as window tinting.

Suggestions much appreciated.

Yeah sorry about that. It took me forever to figure out how to turn my picture into a URL, and then for some reason it didn't work.
