05 TL - need new battery

Hey guys, just got my car back from its 1st servicing. As I guessed the battery needs replacing. Acura wanted to charge me $160, I said to hold off. I'm sure I can get it elsewhere for a bit less, but just wondering what you guys suggest in terms of brand. I can get an AC delco for a bit cheaper. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

AC Delco batteries are great. You can also get an Optima Red Top.

Whatever you do, DON'T pay $160 for the Acura battery. They are terrible at keeping a charge, and that is way too much money.

When I replaced mine last year Consumer Reports recommended Interstate, or, no kidding, Wal-Mart. I got the Wal-Mart. About $70 installed (check the installation for yourself right away).

your battery may be still under warranty. I replaced mine (very weak) 4 months ago and the dealer said it was still under warranty (not the same warranty as the car) so it was at no cost to me.

I'd sell you mine for $100 if you lived close. Shipping would probably be expensive though.

Acura put a brand new one in when I bought the car (pre-owned) less than 2 months ago. I have a red top and a yellow top Optima just sitting around....waiting to be installed.

....maybe I find out where my radio and navi codes are so I can do that.

Yeah, my car was at the dealer about 3 weeks ago. I have an 05 w/62k, no extended warranty, they replaced my battery at no charge, said it was still under warranty.

My other TL, an '05 automatic, had its factory battery go out last November. We replaced it with an Interstate. Perfect fit for the car and an excellent product. Been around a very long time.

Our OE '04 battery went last Thursday. After looking at a few sites decided on the Dura Last from AutoZone with 750CCA $89. Only problem was that the top caps were too high to accept the crossbrace so I needed to shim up with some wood. Also, now when I look down the opening in the cover I don't see the "eye" that was worthless anyway, but all I see is the yellow color of the battery top.

What's even more aggrevating is that I have the power adapter that plugs into the OBDII port and supplies power so that the nav, radio, etc electronic settings are not lost when the battery is disconnected, but as the battery died guess what I needed to reset. Aggravating.

If your car is still under warranty they'll replace if free of charge. I took my car for service. Afterward they said they replaced my battery and it would cost $100 something. I said wait a minute isn't it covered under the warranty. Then they said oh yeah.

I just replaced my OEM battery last Saturday (2/14). I have a 2004 6MT non-navi with roughly 58k miles and I was running with the original battery. The OEM battery is group 24F with 550 CCA. My stealership wanted $180 to replace it.

I checked out the Consumer Reports battery ratings from Nov '08 and went with the Everstart Maxx-24N which is sold at Walmart for $75 and rated #2 in the 24F Group (I live in Wisconsin BTW). This battery is made by Johnson Controls. Luckily, I have a friend who works for JCI so he got me the battery for $28. He could also hook me up with an Optima Red Top if I wanted, but I read that this battery doesn't quite fit right in the TL. Anyone?

Just keep in mind that if that battery has the two caps on top of it for adding water, you'll need to adjust the holding bracket accordingly. It took me roughly 15 minutes to remove and install. The only pain was that I had to reset my XM presets.

I saved the Consumer Reports Battery Ratings into a Microsoft Word document. I'd like to add this as an attachment but this site won't allow me to do that for some reason. I've read the FAQ but my posting rules are "You may not post attachments".

It's a good chance that Johnson Controls made your battery and the next battery you buy. Check this out.

I suggest that you look into some lightweight batteries (cheaper and better, 900 CCA!) from jeggs.com (free shipping)

Also look into optima Red and YELLOW top batteries, these last a long time and will work even if you shoot through them with a shotgun.

What, are you shitting me.....!!!! (not you csmeance, the OP)

So well Acura has a 100 month warranty on the battery. 100 months is like 8 years and 4 months....so you are covered till mid 2013 (so am I 2005 right)....

Just recently my battery was not cranking my car up properly (cold weather can be a BITCH).....so I took it to the dealership and told them:

ME: hey i dont think the battery has much life left and I dont wanna be stuck at home on a cold morning
HIM: Let us take a look at it and if needed we will replace it
ME: Free right
HIM: Yes Sir
ME: Awesome....imma take the 4G for a spin in the meantime....

by the time i was back...the car was up and ready....it had a 01/09 yellow sticker on the new battery and well off i went

Just as a precaution to see if you dealer is ripping you off....make a small mark on the battery, which only you would notice.....well lets just say at first i didnt trust my dealership....now I DO

Seeing as the Optima Red and Yellow Top are not group 24/24F, how well do they fit inside the TL? I thought I read somewhere the Red Top requires a heightening adapter.
