The new RL looks like the 2G TL with more curves. That's a compliment, considering I owned and loved one prior to my 3G TL. Looks conservative, but that's who's going to be buying it. The overall feature package is attractive, too. Wonder how much it's really going to cost....

Forgot to mention: I want Acuralink! Real-time traffic info....I could use that. Hopefully it'll be in a navi upgrade for us TL users.

jjstokes, given Bose's history with the 2G TL (I say again, I owned one), I would say the Bose stereo may not be a good thing. The Bose system in the 2G TL had muddy, unfocused bass and was a bit too bright. Still better than the average system, but the Panny system in our 3G TLs is MUCH better in comparison.

Bose system sucks in my brother's 2000 TL and I've heard nothing but complaints about how cheap the Bose system sounds in Infiniti's... Bose isn't as great as many think it is.

Yeah, somehow I don't see those making it into production.

wood

that's what i wished they had optioned in the TL - the dark luxurious wood trim. other than that, the interior layout doesn't look much better. The leather looks like it will also be a big improvement over the TL (notice the creases/folds - I guess Acura decided to built-in the creases and butt prints instead of us TL owners manually making those after the 1st day in the car).

I believe the RSX type S has Bose but the base has a regular Acura system (i had one, thank god its gone!). The MDX, at least the 01 (I have touring w/navi and tv/upgraded dvd), has either I think Alpine or Bose. I 4got but i remember the dealer saying something about Alpine..someone correkt if this is messed up info

BTW, this new Acura RL = Real Lousy. Horrible design, its so freakin small and compact, how can it be the flagship sedan of the Acura line?

I like the front grille much better than the TL's. I wonder when someone will come out with a replacement.

I will second the comment that this car would be a nice one to trade for when the TL lease is up. By that time they should have all the kinks worked out of it as well.

I'm not sure you can tell much about its size from the pictures. A previous post said it sports 20" rims if that helps you gain some perspective.

It has more interior space than the current RL and looks bigger than the TL. You looking for a Town Car or something?

As far as flagship goes, I like the direction Acura is heading...

I like it a lot. Very well done Acura.
If I were in the market for this type of car, the RL would be it over the Lexus LS430, V-8 or not.

I think the new RL will sell very well under some stiff competition.

What is that big knob in the center console? It looks like an i-drive knob.

I think Acura really gives Lexus a slap in the face with this new car.

Acura RL V-6 300hp vs. Lexus GS 430 V-8 300hp (proposed output on next years sedan). I think this is a better compasion then the Lexus LS430.

It's not a small car.... look at the specs. It just looks smaller because of its shape and those 20" wheels, which I doubt will ever see production.

What a dissapointing exterior. It looks like a next generation accord. Didn't Acura learn from the huge sales of the TL, that going away from the "Honda" look is what's going to attract buyers?
The interior is very nice, though it has some glimpses of the infiniti, BMW, consoles all rolled into one.

Question though, was the new RL designed in the US like the TL or in Japan?

Umm no. The rear is a copy of the 1st generation CL. The front is definitely Accord/Camry. The 3/4 rear view is ALL Accord.

Small? The wheelbase is slightly shorter than the last model but the backseat is huge!

Again, Honda packaged the REAL/USEFUL space that is occupied by humans quite well.

As always with Honda, what sometimes looks mediocre on paper is brilliant in the real world.

If you look closely in the photos, you can see the headliner drooping.

j/k obviously

I agree that the rear brings back images of the CL design. Personally I loved the look of the CL, but I guess a lot of people didn't.

I also agree with the comment that the TL's console looks better. This one is trying too hard to be everything for everyone. I don't want a frickin' I-Drive. I want logically laid-out buttons.

The leather is definitely nicer than in the TL, but hey, it's going to cost a lot more too.

Finally, enough with the aluminum! I know some people love the look, but face it, it's going to get dated. Personally I'll be glad when the various manufacturers get over their current fetish with the "aluminumization" of every frickin' model out there. It's not luxurious anymore when it starts showing up in Cavaliers and the like.

Sound system wise, it says 10-speaker. Infiniti's new M45 supposedly has 14 speakers.

Home theater or surround audio wise, Bose is expensive but i rarely find good reviews of it, although the name is well recognized. HK and other systems are way better. But i guess we'll wait to hear.

Current RL sells about 500 a month. Would the new RL reach around at least 2000? Lexus LS430 sold around 3000 of it in March. That's an incredible number.

Aluminum is the trend in everything now!! Ferchrisake.
Audio/video equipment is all alum. or alum-like...
Computer equipment too.
Silver faced audio gear was the thing back in the 70s/80s, then it all went to black.
What will be next after Alum? GOLD?

It not bad, the new RL... but at the same time, I wouldn't jump out of my seat and rush to the dealer to see it if they had it today.

I like the center console better on the TL, more integrated.

Unlike how I felt when I first saw the 2004 TL! =)

Think it has a great look. Geared toward a different crowd than those of the TL. In a few years this could be a car I see myself in. For now though I am going to continue to enjoy my sporty TL. I think my dad would look great in the RL though. So like I said different crowd will aspire to this vehicle.

Damn it, AWD too. My only consolation is that my 6spd TL will still be faster, otherwise I'd have to find who to sell it to so I could buy me an RL! BMW, Mercedes and Audi must be shitting their pants!

Don't like it as much as the TL. I think its center stack looks cluttered. The front looks like a Camry, the rear like a Bangled mess. The SH-AWD system and OnStar don't make up for the design. I'll have to see how people think it drives, but I'm sure I'll be buying a TL. Now if I can just get the dealership to move closer than 100 miles away!

i dun think BMW and Mercedes are worrying too much. its a nice car but certainly if someone was looking at the RL, 5 series and E class the german cars have the advantage. The other cars are well refined luxury sedans, i dunno if Acura will get alot of people to spend 50K+ on a honda. we'll see what happens when it hits the showroom floors.

BMW, Mercedes and Audi still think they have that name thing going for them, and I'm sure they are right to an extent. Status. Apparently, those people don't care as much about reliability etc., as long as they drive a Bimmer!! MB... etc. I have friends that drive MB, and BMW, and their cars are in the shop more, they have issues as well (believe it or not-their paint chips too...) and some of them are not as fast or handle as well as my TL.... but hey, they have the propeller or Tri-Star on the hood. Right?
Okay, I have my Nomex on... all you BMW and MB and Audi guys, flame away.

I just noticed this:

The prototype has REAL wood! Honda wouldn't dare put THAT much acreage of fake wood in one of their cars, would they?

The old RL like my 98 runs on a 114.6" wheelbase, the new one is 110". Where are they getting more interior space from?

sorry guys it looks too much like a dodge stratus. It looks like Acura has been stealing styling cues from other cars. First the warmed over '98 GT mustang look for the TL and now this.

This car is going to be bitchin http://www.supercars.de/singlecar/110/825.html

I'm soooooo glad I went TL instead of waiting for the RL. It's much better than the existing RL, but it's not as exciting as the TL in any way, shape, or form. Interior or exterior, the TL is much more aggressive and modern looking. The only thing I like better is the triple gauge cluster's aluminum trim and 'circular' blue glow. BJ

The funny thing is that the RL is sooo boring and looks like a Camry. I thought the design themes were supposed to come from the TL? The new M45 is MUCH better in looks and has 340hp to boot! Sorry, but unless the RL underprices the M or GS, it'll have a hard time in that segment IMO.
