05 RL Best Shifting technique for fast starts
I did a search and couldn't find anything on this issue. Maybe someone has brought it up already.
What is the best way to shift the car to get the fastest 0-60 or 1/4 mile time? I have tried the paddles and manual stick method but either I'm shifting too late or it is too slow on the gear change to seem effective. I have resorted to D3 and dropping the hammer and that seems to work best. But, I have to believe that I may be pushing the revs too high in manual mode and not getting the best performance out of the car. It is bone stock, but hey, its fun to beat all kinds of cars 0-60. Anybody have any thoughts on what RPM to shift at in each gear or whether D3 is the most optimum? Thanks!

Taking it to the track and trying both manual shifting and leaving it in D3 or D5 will give you a great idea since you will have recorded times. I would assume manual shifting would be your best bet to get the best times since your RL upshifts early before redline on full throttle runs.

That's exactly what D3 is. Doesn't shift higher than 3rd and revs 1st and 2nd to higher rpm. Not sure if it hits redline of not. It's also electronic throttle so I bet it determines if your foot is on the floor or just 3/4. I'm starting to think that you just put your foot to the floor to get peak performance and the computer does the rest. I bought this car used and priced right and it is an amazing car. Especially with the a spec wheels she isn't like a 911 in the corners but real close to a Sport Series Beemer. I have grooved/dimped rotors that should help the braking. The awd is cooler than I expected but it takes getting used to staying on throttle all the way through a tight turn. And she's giving me 26+ mpg on the highway while the woman is happy to go for the ride. Makes me want to start making engine mods to get ... say 50 more horse .
