'04TL move to a used NSX?

If your going to do it, make sure you pick up a 97+ model year since they have the 3.2 DOHC VTEC.
I personally hope to pick one up in the future (an 02+ model). What makes the NSX great is that its a borderline supercar that you can drive daily. Just be careful for odometer fraud on them. I heard its pretty common.

I was just snooping around over here from the CL board. I have a CL Type S and a NSX. I love both. The CL is a very comfortable DD, but the NSX is just fantastic to drive and fun with.

I've noticed that the older NSX's seem to be faster, like the 91.
I don't think a newer one will matter that much as they HAVEN'T CHANGED IN 15 YEARS. Please don't lash out but they really haven't.
What's new..non retractable headlights, 6sp trans. pulse air injection. Minor things I think. The radio is still the same as the 91.
Awsome car though.
I also heard no one really knows when the new NSX will be coming out. I was told that Japan can't agree on a body style that will pass our federal crash and bumper test, pretty silly huh. Can't wait to drive one when they come out.

Are you talking about a NSX? Have you ever driven one? They are not exactly slow... 0-60 in the low 5's with a top speed of 167.
If you've never driven one, you may want to before moving on to making it even faster.
That being said, it has all the same aftermarket goodies that most cars do, intake, headers, exhaust, forced induction, etc.........

The best thing that I've driven is a stock looking 91 red one with a Comptech Super Charger.....sleeper!!!
Man that tach moves fast.
Comptech makes a supercharger, intake and headers/exhaust, ecm, clutch, suspension etc..
The best was the twin turbo NSX. Engine cover was gone and the turbos and tubing was visable through the glass. No one drove this one but one of our guys got to ride with the owner(bastard). This was at the NSXPO in 97.
I heard a group of about 12 NSX's coming down from the mountains were tracked by chopper and all stopped and ticketed by a trooper down the highway for speeding....they all just paid the fine and kept going. Money!

Always room for mods, especially with 15 year old technology.

But the NSX looks SOOOOOO much better! Depends whether you want to be the fastest car out there or not. Everyone does, but it's not realistic. I can't compete with a z06 stock for stock and with mods, it'll crush me. Still prefer the NSX....

I have both, as does at least one other member of this board.
If you are serious about buying an NSX, check the extensive FAQs at www.nsxprime.com and join that internet community. It is great forum, made up of knowledgeable owners rather than 16 year-old wannabe e-ballers.
If you have any specific questions, let me know.

I would definatly do it... I also seem to like the older NSX, the 3.0L instead of the 3.2L... There is a lot more after market parts for the 3.0L then the 3.2L I was also thinking of going that route of trading my TL for a NSX, but I can't just have a stock NSX... everything that is aftermarket for the car is so expencive, that's what I cant afford.

It really depends what you want.
Good NA1 coupes can be had for $30k all day. Buy a car that already has the mods you want.
Right now there are several SC'd NSXs for sale on prime that can be had for a fraction of the build cost. These are cars with every go-fast mod you could want, pushing close to 400 RWHP with full suspension, big brake kits, etc.
For $42-45k, you can get an older NSX like one of these, with 40-50k of mods.

BTW, the aftermarket potential of the 3.2 isn't as bad as you think. OBDII makes tuning boosted cars more difficult, but the rest of the mods are pretty similar.

The NSX is a very nice piece of art. I would love to own one. My friend had one with the Comptech charger and it was quick. He's in the process of doing another NSX project with boost this time around.

*drool*.. I've also decided if this is my next route after this Abyss Blue cup of lemonade runs empty.
That car is one bEAUtiful piece of work, just makes ya stop like the camera is in slow frame rate as it goes by. But the current one... *BLECH*.. hate the headlights and the round orange lites in the rear triangles, just doesn't flow well.
And I want the blue (of course), that is such an eye popping blue.
And you say they are 30's to 50's used these days ?? hmmmmmm I guess my neck is going to have to hurt a little more. *g*

For anyone shopping NSXs, here are two decent places to start:
http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/BuySell/pricing.htm
http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/forum...?s=&forumid=22
If you want a blue NSX w/SC for under $50k:

I went the other way. I sold my 98' NSX-T and bought a 04 TL and a 05 Subaru Outback for my wife. I do miss the NSX, I don't miss the worry I had in it. I mean the car is worth a lot as long as it has never been in an accident. Living in the Bay Area, I always feel I'm about to be hit by someone or something. At least getting the TL repaired will be easier.
If anyone has the chance to own a really nice NSX - I would say go for it. Truely a NICE car!

If I ever buy an NSX (new or used), I would drop it of at CompTech and have them do the following to it:
And then I could do a little roadracing... But I'm afraid to add up the cost.
- Supercharger Kit
- High Flow Airbox
- Headers
- Exhaust System - Catback
- Brakes, Powertec - 13" 4 Wheel Kit
- Aluminum Koni Pro Suspension Kit
- Shock Tower Brace, Rear - Billet
- Swaybar Upgrade
- Aero Kit and Wing or Spoiler
- Wheel and Tire upgrade
And then I could do a little roadracing... But I'm afraid to add up the cost.

Sorry to be a dissenter but I would not switch a TL for a used NSX. Unless you want a garage sleeper it would be foolish. The NSX is fantastic and exotic, a TL is a car you can use any day. And you would be surprised that although an NSX can beat a TL in the sporting arena every time, the performance differential is not that big at all. Most people don't have an NSX as a "car" its something to fool around during nice sunny summer days. Furthermore, I would never buy a used car, never mind a high perfomance one, they have usually been driven to death. My motto is if you can't afford a car new then you can't afford it.

Mostly agree...
I would never consider an NSX a replacement for a TL (or my CL) but rather a nice weekender...
However, I'm a bit torn between the hardtop and t-top versions of the NSX... The hardtop is no longer available...

Although my car is 12 years old and has over 90k on it now, (I drive it 10k a year, just for fun) I still get asked by people if it is brand new. Mine is considered higher mileage, even though it is only about 7.5k a year. Average mileage is about 5k/year for an NSX. There are several early NSXs, 1991s and 1992s, that have under 15k miles on them, even today.
I would not hesitate to buy a well-maintained NSX. (I didn't hesitate when I found my 93). If you have to have a warranty, lease a new one or buy a CPO one. Honda's CPO program is 7 years IIRC, so there should be a few around.
As for buying used vs. new, there is no real distinction anymore in many cases. If I wanted a new car, I would look first for a slightly used one. The CPO warranties are better than the new car warranties, and you don't have to lose the initial depreciation. YMMV.

The coupes are lighter and more rigid. They make a better track car. The Targas have the benefit of a removable roof and the minor improvements over the years (and the significant change in 1997).
If you aren't going to do driving schools on a regular basis and like a removable roof, go Targa. If you put in a solid harness bar you can eliminate some of the flex from the Targa. If you want an NA2 6-speed/3.2 (97+), you are pretty much limited to Targas, other than the rare coupes mentioned above.

Since the change to the 2002 body style, no coupes have been imported to the US. In the rest of the world, coupes and targas have been sold each year.

If that is a concern, I would talk to whoever runs your the HPDEs you plan to attend. You can find a link to the local bmw cca chapter at www.bmwcca.org if you plan to do their schools (I love the bmw cca).
I do know some other events allow convertibles. I believe quattro club events do, but ICBW.
