04/TL Front grill, back molding color change
Every time I looked at the silver painted front grill and back silver accent molding over the license plate area I just thought something didn't look right. Finally I did something about it.
I went to my local Acura Dealer, Davis Acura in Langhorne,Pa. and requested information from them on how to remove the front grill pieces and the back molding so that I could have them re-painted. They provided me with detailed directions on how to remove these pieces and pictures showing the break down of the parts.
The directions required you to remove the front bumper cover in order to remove the front grill components which were fastened by phillip head screws and 7mm/10mm bolts. After climbing under the car I was able to remove the parts quite easily with short screw drivers and swivel rackets.
After removing the parts I took them to K&M Paint in Levittown and had them painted gloss black to match the rest of the side window and B-pillar trim pieces.
Needless to say, I love it. Acura should have painted them black in the first place to match the rest of the car. I will take some pictures tomorrow and try to post them.
Anyone else do this easy modification to clean up the car where the manufacturer overlooked?

I merged the threads for you
I was skeptical how it would look as black, but I must say, it looks damn good... did you just go with a flat black, Metallic Black or Night Hawk Black Pearl?
EDIT: I see you said you painted it gloss black

Everyone is breaking my stones over the s-badge, I guess I'll have to take it off.
Since I only put on the A-spec wing, front ground effects and wheels I thought it would throw people off and confuse them, especially now with the painted grill. I guess it has only made everyone laught at me.

I did email several companies on the West coast to have all eight chrome emblems re-done in gun metal plating but they only guarentee them from 60 or 90 days. No thanks
eight emblems= 4 wheels, front/rear logo,TL,Acura

It looks really nice, I too was skeptic of it looking nice unless the car was black, but it looks great. I see you didnt clear the headlights when you had the bumper off, at least now you know how to get that thing off. I wish I could convince my parents to get the aspec kit, but it looks like the most I will be able to get are the rims, and maybe if I buy the suspension myself

No bumper removal required!!!!!!
The hood piece was the easiest of them all, four bolts then slide the molding to the right to release a small clip used in the manufacturing process to hold it in place. The center molding was a tight fit thought the opening of the top radiator support with a short phillips head screw driver and a swivel socket. I also found it easlier to go from underneath the front bumper and reach up and loosen the bolts and screws. The thin molding on the bottom is only held in by pressure tabs and with a flat head screw driver you can push each tab out of the hole and then pop it off. The rear molding requires you to remove the inside truck lid cover and unscrew several screws and bolts holding in the license plate housing, also unclipping the wires for the backup and plate lights. Then push out the housing from the truck lid and remove the three or four screws holding on the molding. I thik the hole process took me about 40 minutes to figure it all out and 15 minutes to put it back together after painting. I give this project a 4 in difficultly.

can u still do this without removing the front bumper and all... that seems a little to much work . i was thinking of masking out the grill and then painting it. has anyone tried this? sounds a little ghetto, but alot easier to do.
ur grill looks very sweet, btw... mixes nicely with the grey.

I did the same thing except i painted the pieces abp to match the rest of the car. I also did an m-3 lip spoiler on the rear as I didnt like the lip spoiler that acura offered. And I know "yada yada" without pics this is worthless, lol. I will get some asap.
