'04 postponed?
My uncle is a general car salesman. He works for a leasing company and has access too all makes and models. Anyhow he really dislikes acura...yah me and him always argue over this...anyhow, he claims that acura is postponing the release of the '04's because they can't sell the '03's....is he right with this statement?
my argument was they had some engineering problems and wanted to perfect the car b4 it's released?
who's right?

his reasoning is wrong. The 6MT may be delayed to some dealers because of what sounds like a supply issue (my guess being brembo), but otherwise everything looks to be on track.

The "delay" has to do with that nasty little blackout (it really goofed things up for everyone in the manufacturing business) AND brembo from what the Acura grapevine has been saying.

whatever I figured that he was talking out of his ass. Our uncle is not very fond of our family right now because he believes all family should purchase cars from him. History in many cases has proven that you should never mix business with family, and the bottom line is he never moves his ass to get the deal completed. We did once buy a 1996 Ford Windstar from him, not only did he not mention that the car had been in a huge accident, but he delivered our Demo with a massive dent on the driver door, which had to be paid for by us because the leasing company believed it was at fault of us.
I would never buy from him again, and he only made his statement regarding the '04's because he's pissed that we didn't buy our '03 a-spec from him.
thanks for the replies guys.

I have a 6MT on order and I have received no word regarding a delay from my dealer. He expects it to be here between 10/10 and 10/17. If I did get word this late in the game I'd be pissed.

What's the big deal?
I don't quite understand the point here. I'm sure that it will make it difficult to sell 03's once the 04's are on the lot. But Acura Mfg is not going to delay the release just because dealers have old inventory. Also, if it's delayed due to a problem, wouldn't you rather Acura fix the problem instead of rushing to get them on the lot? (Unlike my '01 CL-S)
I too am waiting for one, but I'm not going to complain if mine is not here on the 10-06 like I have been told. Complaining to my dealer won't get it here any faster (or cheaper).
I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes here, but I wouldn't let your uncle bother you.

My issue would be with my dealer telling me that my car is being built and to expect it by a certain date, only to turn around and tell me it's delayed a month.
Either way, I'm not going to stress it. I'll be very happy when it gets here, however.

6 speed issues
Thanks for the info on the manual. However, my transmission will be an auto. A few years ago I'd probably gone with the manual, but I've enjoyed not having to shift. Plus, my CL-S Sportshift is pretty responsive from 2nd to 5th gear. By the way, it’s for sale.

Thanks for asking. Here's the basics:
2001 CL-S w/ Navigation and spoiler; Sundance Gold; 25,000 miles; original owner since July 2000.
Blue Book is $22,000. I really don't know what to ask yet. But I can't get the TL until this sells.

I just found this website far an Oakland CA dealer advertising the "First Showing of the 2004 TL" on October 22, 2003.
This doesn't bode well for an October 6th release. I have a deposit down for a '6 October' delivery for an AT, no Navi.

This launch is probably one of those new car introduction parties. Usually lite bites and Acura reps abound. They have had this for each of their new arrivals over the past few years. The car is hitting the streets on 10/06!

To All:
Automatic Transmission TL's are not delayed in any way. I already have 6 built and assigned to me. They are due the first week of next Month in anticipation of the release on the 6th.
The 6-Speeds will enter production 30 days late and begin arriving in November.

I found out from my dealer today that 6MT production has been delayed a month. I shouldn't expect my car to arrive until some time in early November.
It would have been great for them to tell me earlier. Oh well, no stress.

Cars on the way!
I saw my dealer last night, and he will have a car for test driving on Sept. 28, and expects to have my car by Oct. 15 or sooner(don't they always say "or sooner." This is Acura Carland in Duluth, GA. He also gave me a brochure, but has no pricing info.

Hi Everyone,
I spoke to my salesman today (Regal Acura, Lakeland) and he told me that the new TL would not be available for sale until the launch date of 10/22. Apparantly the 10/6 date has been moved back until every dealer is assured of a vehicle to show. I'm assuming this is a nationwide thing as I received an invitation specifing 10/22 as the official unveiling. This doesn't mean they won't be on the lots sooner (10/6?) just not for sale. Has anyone else officially heard any different from their dealers? BTW, he told me he has 6 coming in with 4 already sold.

Sundance Gold: Some have called it ugly (or worse). Some say it’s cool. I describe it as unique. Acura only built about 2000 before they realized it wouldn’t attract their typical customer. I agree, but I’m not typical.
The low 25,000 miles comes from putting 45,000 miles on our MDX in the same period.
I love my CL-S, but I too need (want) a 4-door. And since I don’t want to give up performance, the ’04 TL is probably my best option.

2004 TL:
I don't work at the factory. I'm the e-Business Manager for an Acura, BMW, Porsche store in Chapel Hill NC. The first batch of TL's have been built for a while. Acura should be moving them to the local ports to coordinate the release. Most decent sized store will have plenty coming in the Month of October. I already have 8 Premium and two Navigation models built and in transit.

Six-Speeds, navi or not, will enter production in the second allocation (November Production). Depending on where you're at in the Country, you should expect to see Six-Speed models showing up after the 8th of November or so. The exact dates for November production won't be know for about a week.
Hope it helps.
