04 lease is up
Well my3 year lease on an 04 SSM 5AT navi is up and I just ordered a 335i to replace. The TL was my first "real" car and I can't say enough good things about it. Looking forward to the redesign in '09 but I'll enjoy the bimmer for a while. I don't know if anyone has driven the new 335 but it is one fast car. Even still, the BMW interior does not compare to the TL and I did not like getting nickeled and dimed for every option. Also looked at the G35 (obviously a little different price range) but I couldn't get past the still lacking interior and the horrific siver "spoiler" on the trunklid that looks out of place with every color except silver. To anyone buying a new TL or thinking about it, for the price, nothing can beat it.
Also, got an 07 MDX for the wife. Great ride for an SUV with a fantastic interior. Much better than the new X5

off topic of TL but in reply:
335i
loaded with almost everything except sport pkg (navi, premium pkg, cold wthr, sirius, etc)--->just didn't want summer tires in the northeast
36 month lease 15k miles/yr
$3000 out of pocket-->I know this is too much to put down on a lease but the wife hates higher monthly payments
getting $1500 below MSRP
$660/month

I was surprised at the $660/month for a $48k 335i but the BMW money factors and residuals are slightly better than acura. My wife just got a new 07 MDX lease and I think we put more money down and it was about the same price and her payment is $40 more per month. Plus out of that $3000 down, probably $2000+ is cap cost reduction.
As I said before, I love my TL but just wanted a change and could afford a little more money this time and couldn't resist the 300+HP twin turbo BMW. Why would anyone get a 5 series? Eagerly awaiting the 09 TL w/300+ HP and SH AWD...unless I can afford a 911 by then. Which I probably could do now if I was single...
Finally, to anyone who gets on this board thinking of buying a TL: Nothing better for the money

Guys, if you guys are going to lease, BMWs are a much better "deal" than the TL.
The TL is only a better deal if you plan to drive it to the ground. If you're only going to keep the TL for 2-4 years and one of the main reasons you are buying it is because it's much cheaper than other cars like a BMW, you are may want to rethink things.
I currently drive a 05 TL, and I bought the TL because I "thought" I would keep it for a long time. It's been a great car - trouble free and rattle free, but I'm looking for a new ride now. Compare a 5 series and my TL.
My co-worker just leased a fully loaded 530i (MSRP 56.5K) or $550/month before tax with only 1500 down. That is simply amazing. I have no idea how much it will cost to lease a TL right now, but my TL has cost me $610/month to own for two years. As you can see, there isn't as big a difference if you are going to change cars every 2-3 years.

Whether you're buying or leasing, the BMW residual values are a critical consideration in the cost of driving. I just bought my wife the 328xi coupe and it is a wonderful car and.....all things considered the build quality is better than my Acura in my view. I purchased it, but the lease deal was definitely compelling and the 328 is quite comparable to the Acura in terms of get-up-and-go, and the 335 is really something. Acura has its work cut out for it.
Ah the BMW. The interior...can't compare to Acura or Lexus. Don't buy the car just so you can say i drive a BMW. You wont be driving anywhere near the speed needed for the BMW to show its handling ability edge over the Acura or Lexus.

BMW's are not always a better deal.
Here is my deal on a 2007 Tl-S:
Cap cost: 35.5K
Resid: 60%
Money Factor: 0.00154
Up front costs: $1000
Monthly paymnet: $500.74
Terms: 36 months/12K per year
Total cost: 19026.64
BMW 335: 660/ month with 3K down
Total cost: 26760
Difference: $7,733.36 or $214.82 (42.9%) extra per month for BMW. Did you have 12K or 15K miles per year?
The BMW is faster, handles a little better, but the interior is weak IMHO. And the exterior has not grown on me like I thought it would (I am taliking about the sedan, the coupe looks great)
So which car is the better deal? And why do you think BMW's are a better deal to lease?

Hope this helps. I don't lease nor finance, I am just simply transfering the information I acquired.
I attended a seminar conducted by James A. Ziegler yesterday. You can probably find his information on the internet, but to be short, today he owns an consulting firm for auto dealers, goal is to maximize profit per unit, monthly sales, and customer satisfaction. He started out in the auto industry since 1976 as a salesperson.
During the seminar, he mentioned that about 85% of the customers today (from his experience, not statistically proved) when nogotiating with the salesman on price, the single biggest concern is monthly payment. He said, it is customer's loss to take those zero down 12,000 miles 36 month lease. In fact, he stressed on down payment, stating that zero down payment is the worst outcome for both customers and dealerships. There was a % of the total price that should be put as down payment for lease or purchase to acquire the best deal.
Just wanted to share my experience, I think what he is trying to say is that don't make impulsive decisions when given a low down payment and monthly payments....

Congrats and enjoy your new bimmer. My last car was a 3 series and loved it. The new 335's are awesome. I also seriously considered a 335 before deciding on the TL.
The TL was just a better fit to what I was looking for....
