04 Acura Tl vs 05 g35 coupe
Both are 6 speed, Tl has 140k with pcd's jpipe custom cat back and intake. While the g35 has 75k miles with intake and cutback. We are going to run them after work tonight, I think I have a pretty good chance. What u guys think? O and btw it's going to be a highway run.

Driver dependent it should be pretty close. I've run a Revup (05+) G35 coupe 6MT and it was almost dead even. Before my custom Jpipe/merge collector I ended up ahead by less than 1/2 car on 2 runs. 1 first gear roll and 1 second gear roll. The G35 was modded, said to have MD ART test pipes and MD catback only. However, from the rear it was clear he had a single 3" catback with a dummy muffler, especially since I saw his car again this past Saturday and got a better look. And Motordyne doesn't make a 3" catback for the G35. So based on that, I think he had more done.
Maybe Dave can chime in since he owns a G35, whether or not they can/try to fit 350z exhausts on the car or not?

My suggestion, do a roll starting at the highest speed you can. From my experience, TL is pretty fast at high end, 80+ mph.
I have raced a couple of Gs and what I have found is that my car struggles to keep up till 60 mph but after that takes the lead all the way till 120 mph.

Hmm alright, i have never ridden in a car with him so idk how well he can shift and etc. I do have slightly more done to my car, so I think I should be able to take him. At least I hope lol, I been talking shit all day. Illl let you guys know how it pans out, I might try to make it video but idk how well it'll turn out with me trying to shift and record.

Don't shift/record, that's stupid. First of all it's not safe and second, you will surely lose. If anything, have the G35 line up on your right and put the camera in the passenger headrest.
Do a 40-45 roll. 60 roll is okay I guess, but you're already going the speed limit. 40-45 rolls are much better imo.

I think it will be a great run. My money is on the TL 6spd. It will be close no doubt but the TL will have the advantage from a roll IMO. From what I have learned Intakes on the G35's don't give any increase in power in fact I think dave said that they actually can lose some power with a intake. Anyway The Coupe is heavier than the sedan G35 and slightly slower from what I gather.

^ We're at a slight disadvantage because of the lack of torque and being FWD. If you outlaunch a G35, you'll have a much better chance of pulling once you get to 3rd / 4th.
Roll racing takes away that handicap and gives us a better chance.

Wow, 75% to 80% of all these threads in this section recently are against the same ole 3.5/3.7 powered Nissan family of cars over and over and over again and over again.......

Their 3rd & 4th gear are shorter than ours, almost like the RSX/SI. When I ran the G35 he started creeping back to my door in 4th (up to 115), then shifted to 5th and let off. I would've pulled more being that 4th gear goes to about ~125mph.
Case in point: Don't sleep on them with a good driver. I see a lot of people on here saying G35s are slow. They're not.

I agree, the race in question will be driver dependant. Since this guy has an intake on his G, it tells me he doesn't know much about the cars and probably not much about racing. I wouldn't even say he's got a launch advantage because most G/Z drivers suck and poor 60 foots are pretty normal.

Yes, you're right. But since they are very similarly matched cars, the outcome is usually dependent upon driver skill.

He took me on a ride last night it felt like it didnt pulling every hard after 2-3 gear, even then it wasn't a hard pull. Not that my car pulls really hard but harder than the G.

The power delivery in the VQ35 is very linear with no peakiness. The acceleration is misleading. When I sold my 1996 5MT Maxima (14.3s@99mph) with a modded, peaky VQ30, I was convinced my stock 5AT G would be lucky to do a high 14.6@95mph based on seat of the pants feel. It did low 14.3s@98mph stock.

So true. Guys on G35driver.com don't care about racing TLs and the like. Over here, Gs and Zs seem to be the car to run against and interestingly, almost always get beat on the street.

Until we can afford to roll around in 11sec cars, TL's, G35/37, 350Z's, RSX-S's, SRT4's, etc is all your gonna read about.
DaveB, we post TL's beating Z's and G's because well we feel proud that a 4 door family sedan just handed them a whooping after all they are 2 door "sports cars". It's a good feeling and we still have a better interior, IMO

I had the go fast goodies, didn't work on my suspension at all. And its not all about straight line speed.
Your a good guy Dave, I enjoyed reading all the drag tips and reaction time thread you posted. Both cars are great, just a matter of what your looking for.
Good day sir

So true as I'm a member there 2 as is my wife, I think this forum is one of the few forums that still have a race section that tolerates street stuff, its sorta frowned upon on other sites.

My toleration of the 'street stuff' is quite limited, which is likely why this sub-forum is not as active as in years past.
