04 3gen spanks V8 Nissan Titan

I just washed and waxed my car then decided to take a nice little drive. I'm at a stoplight and notice this big black truck coming up on my right side, but he doesn't line up with me. Instead he stops half way so I basically have the length of my hood out in front of him.

So I'm thinking, OK he's probably looking down checking out my nav screen, etc. then don't think much about him after that. So I put it in SS mode anyway because the onramp to the freeway is coming and I love taking the turn at a good speed, so I'm basically just getting reading to take that onramp. We're 2 stoplights away from the onramp btw.

The light turns green and all of a sudden he just stomps it. I'm like, whatever dude, I'm not getting shown up by a fawkin' Titan. He's got a pretty good jump from the light and I'm basically lined up on his ass. By the time my car was approaching red line in 2nd gear, I was already a nose ahead of him. Then I dropped it into 3rd and pow!!!! I completely obliterated this guy as my TL just kept pulling endlessly. I just started laughing as I glimpsed into my rearview then slowed down to legal speed as I approached the 2nd stoplight/intersection.

All of a sudden he starts stomping it again (he's gaining in my rearview) as I pass the 2nd stoplight heading to the onramp. So I'm like, screw that shyt! I drop it into 2nd for a quick second, then kick it into 3rd as I'm exiting the apex of the turn and pow!! I just floor it until I have like 20 car lengths on him then go back to cruising speed, windows rolled down, enjoying tunes from my iPod.

Some people just don't know when to give up.

i had a little pontiac grand prix trailing me on the highway last weekend so i let the tl out and pulled about 20 bus lengths on him several few times until he stopped. sometimes it's too easy.

Sounds like you had fun with them.

I have an Armada, which engine wise its the same as a Titan, its pretty quick for its size. I've raced civicand that camrys and I beat them. 0-60 is 7.2 I believe. With a few mods we can pull a 14.5 - 14.7

yeah I was actually surprised how fast he jumped out in first (or low gear) but new his gear ratios were set up for it. I just had to laugh cause he took me totally off guard since I had my mind on the onramp and wasn't even thinking about racing a truck. I knew though once I started to edge in 2nd coming from behind, that when I hit 3rd it would be over.

If it was one of those souped up Dodge or Ford Lightning trucks, I wouldn't have even tried. Well maybe, just to see how bad I'd lose by!

I just checked the curb weights for the king and crew cabs. You're looking at least 4000K+ lbs on the lower trim end for a crew cab. Can't remember if he had the full rear doors (king cab) or the half rear doors (crew cab) Also have no idea if he had a 4x2 or 4x4. 4x4 adds more weight.

Nice looking trucks though! I'd get one and soup it up if I ever needed one.

edit above: 4k lbs or 4000 lbs!!

if you had been up against a powerstroke diesel or cummins diesel he might have still won they definitely give you a run for your money.

Ken1997TL - i still can't understand how kids think it's cool to put fartcans on their civics. idiots. i remember romping on last gen preludes when they came out in my 1990 3.1L chevy corsica and they couldn't understand why i was winning.

yeah, maybe if it is the dodge ram 3500 4x2 regular cab with the cummins diesel. Curb weight on those start at 5920 lbs with the sport package and 8ft bed. That engine is a beast and alot of drag racing cars use the cummins diesels.

I'm still confident though once I'm topping out in 3rd going over 100mph it would be our win. Knowing how stubborn (and sometimes stupid) I can be, I'd probably just keep going faster until his governer kicked in.

I was looking at a few Armada's before getting the Jeep. It's a huge vehicle which is deceptively quick/fast. I was really impressed with the poop that 5.6 Liter can put out.

In the end I ended up getting another Jeep which isn't much slower than my '05 TL. She can hold her own.

That is crazy!!!

I recall trying to keep up with an Armada while driving my 00 Quest on I-95 (Virginia) and I recall rolling at ~105mph watching that thing continue to pull away from me. (I would like to try that again only with my Murano. )

Cool

You guys are lucky.. I run into stupid little kids that try going against me in a stock TL-P as I roar down the streets. I ran across one yesterday.. a '99, kid tries to be an ass and tails me. so...I took off, slowed down, waved, rotated in a circle around them.. literally.. and then took off..They pulled up next to me at a stop light I was waiting on and didn't even look at me as I smiled back. I love being an ass

My other vehicle is a stock '05 Titan 4x4 crewcab (BTW - the crewcab is the one with the full foor doors, not the king cab). At low speed the Titan wins (thanks to 379lbft of torque), but at higher speeds there's no question my 2G TLS wins. The Titan is a tank.

Sidenote: If Nissan ever shoehorned that VK56DE into the Pathfinder, I am sure that thing would be a BEAST!! That said, Nissan HAS TO update that VK in the same way it did the VQ.
