04-06 transmission swap for 07-08 base model transmission

Is it possible me to swap the transmission in a '05 to for the transmission of a base model 07-08 transmission? I know that the wiring for the 07-08 base models have different transmission wiring, but I was just curious to know if anything could be done to make them compatible with an '05 model.

No. Different bell housing and transmission altogether

I know that the type s has a different bell housing from the 04-06 TL but I remember hearing from someone that the base 07-08 transmission has the same bell housing as the 04-06, but just different wiring.

No, different powertrain.

Ok then out of the 04-06 transmissions I believe that the '06 transmission is the least problematic and can fit into my '05. Am I correct?

01acls 09-16-2017 11:49 PM

Yes up to 06 will work. Same trans same reliability.

What's going on with your trans?

Nothing is wrong with right now, but it was blinking when I had it in drive a few months back when before I got a transmission fluid change and the dealership and I also want performance upgrades on my car and can't do so if I have bad transmission. So you're saying the 06 trans won't be any more reliable than the 04 or 05 trans? I hope that isn't so lol.

01acls 09-17-2017 01:03 AM

That's correct same trans same reliability.

Best thing you can do is keep the trans fluid clean by doing a 100% ATF exchange every 30-35k miles and change the trans filter.

Add 2 XADO AT EX120 to keep the trans and torque converter operating smoothly. As soon as eighter of those parts starts to malfunction the transaxle will be on a slipping slope and very hard to come back from.

In hot weather (90 degrees+) city stop n go/slow driving... use the D4 instead of D5 to improve the ATF flow. Therefore, the cooling of the AT. This should help keep the ATF from reaching the critical temperature of about 270+ degrees. Once the ATF overheats it can only protect the trans for another hour. After that time period it's all down hill from there until the ATF is changed.

I'm glad that you mention the torque convertor because I wanted to swap this stock torque convertor for a high performance convertor from Level 10.com. How do you think that should work out with my transmission?

I have no personal experience with them.

Yikes!!! I guess I won't be looking to them for performance parts. Is it possible for your transmission to survive without the torque convertor? I'm really considering removing it to receive more high end torque.

jkilla369 09-23-2017 11:31 PM

I should probably have the torque convertor removed from my transmission if it's safe to do so.

How about using the much improved AV6 transmission from a 2006-2007 Accord V6?

I never knew those could fit in an '05 TL. How much do they usually go for?

I don't actually know, I'm a manual transmission bigot; there are a number of threads on the AV6 swap here so they're probably the next place you should look. You can also try car-part.com and look for 2006-2007 V6 Accord transmissions to get a feel for the price of the tranny.

Is there the AV6 transmission from the 2006-2007 Honda accord a dramatic downgrade from the TL transmission in terms of torque output? Somebody here let me know.

justnspace 09-28-2017 07:39 AM

^no. same J-series engine. thus why it's a straight swap.

jkilla369 09-29-2017 09:43 PM

I know that this question is out of place on this thread but is it possible to get custom stitching on the upholstery on all 4 doors similar to the stitching that you find on the doors of the type s? I've been looking all over examples of this on base model TLs but couldn't find one anywhere.

thoiboi 09-29-2017 10:35 PM

Anything is possible if you're willing to pay

Ok, do you know of any website where I can purchase this custom stitched door upholstery to get installed into my car?

jkilla369 10-01-2017 12:05 AM

Now the AV6 that Horseshoez was talking about is something like this found in the link correct? I'm just making sure so somebody correct me if I'm wrong. This says 2003-2007 accord automatic transmission though https://m.ebay.com/itm/2003-2004-2005-2006-2007-Honda-Accord-V6-BAYA-Remanufactured-Auto-Transmission-/181909698495?fits=Make%3AHonda

Search this forum for BAYA; you'll get hits on a lot of threads which discuss the issue.
