02 TL-S AT vs 01 X5 4.4i

In case some of you don't know, I have a stock (performance-wise) 02 TL-S 5AT.

So tonight I had a run with this 2001 X5 4.4i. I'm not sure about the year and the exact model. But judging from the tailights, rims, and the quad exhaust (looks exactly like this one except for the color: http://newhaven.craigslist.org/ctd/789099371.html), I'm 90% it's an older 4.4i model.
There's also another reason that I think it's a 4.4i below, you will know why after you read this post.

Basically it was at about 10:15pm. I lined up beside this X5 going uphill at a stoplights (Boundary and Grandview Hwy if you are from Vancouver). I didn't look over, but judging from his driving and my 6th sense, I knew this person wanted to run. I was already in SS (as I love to shift up quickly to save gas). I didn't brake torque, but used the left foot to hold on the brake anyways. So green lights, he jumped a bit, I followed, but i didn't floor it, I gave it a bit more gas, and I think he did too because he was still pulling on me. By this time my car already shifted to 2nd gear automatically, and he gradually floored it, and so did i. Because he floored it first, and I was already in 2nd gear at only 3500rpm or so, I couldn't gain on him. By the way, at 3500rpm, that's about 30-35mph, and the car just wouldn't shift to first gear...But I kept going anyways, and as the rev climbed, I began to stop his pull. And by 6000rpm, I was gaining on him, and by the time I hit 3rd gear , I was already in front. Then I slowed down as there's a redlight in front. I was in the left lane, there was a car stopped at the light in the middle lane, and the X5 X5 driver decided to be a jerk jumped to the right lane (which was about to end after that light) and cut that other car off as soon as the light turned green, and he kept flooring it. I just stayed back and cruised since I already kicked his @$$...lol..

So what was the other reason that I think it was a 4.4i? Well, I went to C&D to check on some numbers and found that the old X5 4.4i makes about 290hp hauling close to 5000lbs, and it's good for 15.4@90mph. No wonder I was able to pull on it even though I floored it later and was in the wrong gear.
