*NEED HELP* In the market for a Third Gen TL
Hey everyone,
I'm currently in the market for a third generation TL, I'm looking at a couple of local ones that are 2004/2005ish that have around 130,000KM (80,778Miles). I just had a few questions if anyone can answer that would be great.
How durable/reliable are these engines, I know Acura is known for it's reliablity but at 130K should I be worried about anything?
What are the major services that need to be done around this mileage? When I was shopping around for an IS300 everyone said to make sure that the timing belt/water pump was done and if it wasn't reason a price was about a grand lower because that's how much it costed. I'm wondering what big maintenance needs to be done around 130K.
Are there any known problems with these model years?
That's all I can really think of right now but if anyone can post what they think I should look out for that would be great.
Thanks for your time,
Jimmy

Most of the maintenance issues with the J series comes in at 110K miles (thats what, 170-175KMS?)
As with all used cars, see if you can get a service history. You would want to know if the transmission has been flushed, since Honda's Auto tranny isnt the strongest and they tend to give out before the engine will.
Good luck with the search, and hope to see you on here more as a Acura owner!

In general I think these engines are pretty reliable. At 105-110k miles there is the major service that needs to be done (belts, water pump, plugs, etc). As with the posts above just make sure the car has been maintained well over its life.

Only problem that a high mileage TL would cause is its transmission. Now with proper maintenance for the transmission (3/4th sensor change every 70k miles, transmission fluid, and filter changed every 35k miles) it could last forever.
Engine should last over 200k miles easily, of course, do your oil changes according to the MID, and other things.
105k service will cost you less than 2k though at a dealership. Get a private mechanic to do it for like 600-800$. If you lived in Houston I can get you all of it done for $500-600.
