A pebble bounced up and hit my front windshield while I was driving on the LIE today. It really hit hard and now my window has a chip in it. It looks like someone shot it with a BB gun.
I'm going to call GEICO tomorrow. They'll send a repair person to see if it can be fixed at no charge, so I'll have them check it out.
I think it will have to be replaced though. In the sunlight I can see a small hairline crack extending out of the chip, so I think it might eventually spread.

I was also getting a few "hits" on highways in past 2 weeks. Since my car is so dirty, I haven't seen any damage yet unless I find time to wash it. ![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Good luck with that inspection.

What's even worse is the sand blasting the your windshield gets on the LIE from all those damn sand trucks coming from out east. They should restrict them to driving in the middle of the night. In the past I've always had to change my wiondshield every two years due to it becoming so pitted from the sand that it was difficult to see when heading towards the sunlight.

Depending on how big the chip is and far the lines extend, you may be able to get the windshield repaired as opposed to replaced. A good option if available to you. Done correctly, you can hardly tell there was chip at all.

I also have a chip in the windsheild that has extended into a long circular crack. I could have easily gotten the chip on the LIE, but I didn't notice anything when it happened. I got in the car one morning and there it was!
I have the glass on order and it will be replaced at no charge through my insurance. I have $0 deductable on glass. If anyone is looking for a good place, I use Alcap in Locust Valley, they have already replaced a windsheild for me on my old Altima, and did a great job. My friends have also used them plenty of times in the past. It's really a great shop.

This seems to be the standard way for insurance co. to deal with this type of windshield issue so far. Good luck.

Pebble hit my GSR about 2 yrs ago on my passenger side windshield when I was driving around 75 mph. Half of my windshield was scattered. I was so tempted to find that stupid pebble.

Anyway they fixed the windshield this morning and I can't even tell where the spot was.
