Like I told you last night Eric, you should of told
em to suck a fat one. They had no business looking in your car just because someone claimed people were racing in the area.

Like Jay-Z said:

I ain't steppin out of shit all my paper's legit
"Well, do you mind if I look round the car a little bit?"
Well my glove compartment is locked so are the trunk in the back
And I know my rights so you gon' need a warrant for that
"Aren't you sharp as a tack, you some type of lawyer or something'?"
"Or somebody important or somethin'?"
Nah, I ain't pass the bar but i know a little bit
Enough that you won't illegally search my shit!

Since you consented to the search you basically have to make your stuff legal now. Good luck with all the fees!

Eric..the city is poor. They are pulling everyone left and right nowadays. They even have those Smog Check station set up on San Gabriel Bl.

I got pull over from El Monte PD back when I had my TL. Pop my hood and give me shit about my Intake was not Carb and my Ground Kit is not Carb and then took a picture of my engine bay. They even give me shit on my Blitz Power Meter ID too. I had to go to East LA and have it smog checked. Costed me over $300. City is poor. Period.

Talk to an attorney. If cops did an illegal search, your attorney can file a suppression motion, if you win the ticket will be dismissed.

wtf? CARB grounding wires. Tell him Fuck you it has nothing to do with the air. CARB = CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCE BOARD *I live in cali also*, and then tell him GO do your fucken job right and go protect the peace and stop trying to make cash. If you wanted to make money go be a business men. I got no problem with cops since they are there for a reason and the reason is to protect and service the public. But if you are just driving along and not doing anything illegal you shouldn't have to be harassed like that.

Also if you did give your consent to the search your screwed. No laywer can save you. They probably have it on camera and you said there was 4 cars so 3 of the cops can vouch for that one cop.

^ - If the consent was coerced or not voluntary then it is basically viewed as him not saying yes to the search. But it is damn hard to win those

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm still a when it comes to traffic stops and encounters... I just never had any encounters with the police asking to search us and pop our hoods

Raymond why did it cost you $300? Did you put everything back to stock, or did you just pay for the fine?

One of my friends told me it costs 10 dollars to have my car checked off at the ref station, and another $10 for the court fees, hope it is Good thing I only have to put my intake and exhaust back to normal... they're just chilling in my garage

I asked my friend and he said he returned it to stock, then it was about $20 for the inspection and $50 for the court fees. Good luck dude. He said if he fought the ticket (and I'm assuming if he lost) it would have been $400.

I pay like $30 something and I have take everything out. I have to go there twice because the Stupid Blitz meter is tap onto the ECU (speed sensor wire). From what the ref told me you can't tamper the Speed sensor wires. I think that is BS. Different city have different price for the fine. Hence my was at El Monte court house. So ya it costed me a lil over $300.

axle back exhaust is LEGAL! Eric, you might habe to pay for the ref station to certify it's legal and under 85db so next time if cop harasses you again, show them the paper. As for the intake, you have to put it back to stock then pay the check fee and court fee. I just got front tint window ticket 3 weeks ago. Court fee is $25.

well if anyone cares, here's the letter I got from the court regarding the ref ticket:

$446 for "modifying smog"

Getting my car inspected at the state referee station this Friday. Should cost me ~$100 is what I hope... after all is said and done.

gat dammit

I could of got an aspec suspension, but instead I pay $490 for a red light camera ticket and I still have to shell out more money to find a traffic school so my insurance is not affected. Sometimes I hate the CA govt. $490 for a red light ticket is quite unreasonable IMO. Anyways, just wanted to vent.

Can't you fight the ticket? Hire a traffic lawyer? I used to get rental cars and pass through tollways (ez tag) and red light cameras (with noone around) just to piss off the city. Never got in trouble for it, it was like 1 year ago

huh? I've had several people tell me they got billed by the rental company a few months after the rental for red light or speed camera tickets.

Also, OP, if you ran the light and the photo shows your car with a red light then just bend over and help your state get out of financial trouble.

That's really expensive, I know in NY if you get caught by the camera going through red, it is 50 bucks with no points since they can't prove that you were driving. They can only bill to the register owner of the license plate.

In Ca its easy to use a online traffic school for 25 bucks
Your ticket that comes in the mail will say if traffic school is allowed or not.
Not all violations can be cleared that way--in this case they probably do want you to get educated about those big white warning signs at the intersection in question
--RED LIGHT CAMERA-
FINE $451
and what those big white boxes on the signal poles contain--dont even think about running the light there!

Tip- dont use comedy traffic school online-they are a PITA
take the regular course- Sit down and do the course time- complete it well before the deadline so the school sends a certificate that you must take or mail to the court in time--can take 2 weeks for paperwork to process and arrive
If you dont get it submitted in time or dont complete the course, you used your 1 chance at traffic school for the next several years

Note you do have to pay the entire fine, plus a fee to go to school up front, Plus the 25 for school itself
What fun!!

California Red Light Camera's do the double flash because they take a picture of the driver and license plates. However, most CA cities are now going to the digital recorders that take a 8-second video of you driving through the intersection, or not stopping properly. I feel no compassion for anyone who gets a ticket for running a red light (it’s very dangerous to do so) and appreciate the high cost of those tickets because that is a major incentive to not run a red light.

Holy crap Cali SUCKS. Red light ticket almost $500 bucks!!!!!!!!!!! WTF. I never have got one but I think its 75 bucks here in IL. There is no reason to blow a red light that has a camera because it tells you right at the intersection that its equipped with a red light camera lol thats just plain old dumb

Mistakes happen, i wasn't blatantly trying to run a red light and I thought I could make the yellow. Anyways, I heard some intersections shorten the yellow light just so they can give more tickets. And I don't know what I was thinking, I knew a camera is there because I've been through that intersection numerous times. Well, what a freaking costly mistake.

Thank you CA govt for raping me in the ass

Ticket question......

As most of you know California is on a mission to kill off street racers and tuners. I got my hood popped this last Monday for having too loud of an exhaust, which is total BS because my exhaust sounds like nothing. This is ridiculous.

So I took my friend (who was in a Honda Odessey) to a famous street racing spot in San Diego (Firehouse in Mira Mesa). We drove up and down the street, and I showed him the tread marks from all the burnouts that happend there.

However, this place is HOT AS FUCK. We were checking out all the tread marks, when I look in the rear view mirror and see flashing lights. Luckily, the hill is on a slope, so they couldn't see that we weren't moving. I pull out quietly and slowly, as does my friend.

The cops gain on us and we are all goind ~45mph, my friends farther behind me since he was in the suicide lane and had to make a U-turn. The cops gain on him so he pulls over, the cop looks at him and tells him "Go Go Go why did you stop". So while hes stopped I keep on my way. The cop that was ahead of my friend and wasnt slowed down by him was right behind me.

Hes pretty far behind me as Im going ~40 mph, I dont know whether to pull over and yield to him, pull over and turn the car off or what. So I just carried on my way. The cop abruptly stops at a green light, about 25 feet behind me, and he just stays there as I slowly creep away, followed by my friend in the van.

We get sketched out and find a different way home, since we thought the cops were down there waiting for me, not the minivan.

So my question is, Can they send me a ticket for not yielding to the police car as he drove 30mph 100 feet behind me. Or can I get a ticket sent for anything else, cause I really did not do anything. Im just freaking out. All I know is that I will never go back to the spot ever again.

My explanation to this story is that someone called the cops saying that street racing is in progress, because they could have heard my exhaust or something. Cops came, and saw a minivan and a honda that were doing the speed limit. They followed us, probably looking for the real suspects, and then stopped because nobody else was around.

I'm planning to go to court for it and hopefully the "expired insurance" issue will be taken cared without a hiccup. As for my speeding...I hope it gets reduced...74mph on a 55mph.

ok guys I have a court date next week for expired insurance (read above). Here's my update, I went to court last month to get both of them taken care of ($225 for speeding and $80 court fee = $305.....ouch!!!). Now before that the DA told me they don't accept the insurance card as a proof because they only accept a letter from the insurance. If you ask me, I think its a stupid policy because the violation date falls within the policy. MY question is, What would happen when I get to court next week? Will I have to pay for court fees and will the "expired ticket" be dropped since I have the letter from the insurance now??? Thanks again all...

So you are supposed to be driving with a letter without knowing you need a letter? I have been continuously insured since 1976. The only form of proof of insurance I have ever had is a COPY of the insurance card the insco mailed or for the last ten years or so that I downloaded from their website.

I was driving a friends car in the mid 90s which apparently had no insurance, I was able to bring my proof of insurance to court and as the coverage dates were within the date of the incident the case was dismissed.

I'd get the letter and also bring my card and ask the judge what is necessary as proof for officers in the street, furthermore I'd bring up the fact that you accidentally gave the old card but HAD the current one in your possession and the officer refused to accept it. WTF? too late?

The law is you have to have it with you, not if you honestly provide the old one have no chance to rectify the error and provide the correct one when the officer brings it to your attention.

What a jerk

The freakin court fee is outrageous tho, $80 for my speeding ticket! The court fee for my last speeding ticket was $50 and that was on Feb 2008. Im just hoping they won't give me any hassle once I get there because of the stupid troopers screw up.

does anyone know if there's any laws (that protects the driver) on posted speed limit signs?

I got a ticket about a month and half ago, and the date to pay for the ticket is coming up... a friend of mine is a cop and is telling me to plead NOT guilty and fight it (but that was before I discovered the posted speed limit sign).

Anyway, look at the picture, the top right red X is where the posted sign is at, which is 35mph... it really isn't even noticeable.

The bottom left red X is where he was sitting when he supposedly tagged me for going 41mph.

The yellow X is where the speed limit starts at 45mph.

My question is... isn't there laws to protect the driver saying that the cop must be within a certain distance to a posted speed limit sign? From top red x to bottom red x it's probably about half a mile.

**I looked it up, it's 5280 ft=1 mile, and if you look at the scale, it's easily over half a mile (which would about 2600 ft)
