And just to reiterate, this Acura flywheel is made by LUK. You can get the same exact OEM/Acura flywheel in an LUK box for $300 or less. In my eyes that makes this a $300 flywheel with a $500 markup (in your example).
Yeah I understand you can get these parts for cheaper elsewhere, but me personally I am having the work done at an Acura dealership. I high doubt they would let me purchase the parts myself (oem or not) and supply their mechanics with them. Either way doesnt matter to me because I do not need to replace my flywheel.
I am all about saving money and stuff, but from reading how involved the clutch replacement is on the TL, I did not want to let some shop do the work on a manual tranny Type S that they probably didnt even know existed, and surely have never worked on one. $1500 bucks and its done from Acura with a loaner. Sound ok to me.

Well I got it done and the car should be ready for pickup tomorrow. Since starting this thread I have searched alot online about resurfacing DM flywheels. It seems that they can actually be resurfaced but it is very difficult because you have to take it apart and then resurfacing the separated flywheel can be difficult because of parts & pieces connected to it that make it hard to mount to a lathe. Having said that the difficulty is high which can easily mean they say they do it and they don't. Either way I took his word for it and will see how it ends up when I pick it up tomorrow.

Wish me luck. I'll let you know how it turned out.

OK, so it turns our i'm not going to be able to pick up my car today. THey tell me that when they were putting everything back and making sure it's ok they noticed that the hydraulic fluid for the clutch was really, really dirty which they of course drained and replenished and if was still excessively dirty and bubble filled even after 2 refills of fresh fluid. THey suspected the slave cylinder may be to blame.....ANyone know what that might be??

the o ring on the tip of my slave took a shit on me at 40k miles.
another 80 bucks for a new slave cylinder...take the checkvalve out before they even bother installing it. If you didn't have that done before, you'll love it.

Too late for that. New slave is in and the car is in my possession. No lie, first thing I did after picking up the car was stop to play the lotto. :-) Then I drove around for about an hour....felt so good to be able to floor the car and not have a spongy clutch afterwards. Last thing I did was clean the TL .....this was my way of asking my car to not impose such financial hardship on me again in a long time.

Hey guys quick question. I am picking up my 07 TLS tomorrow since the dealer completed the clutch replacement. One thing I just though of, when doing the clutch does the dealer need to drain and refill the tranny fluid or is the job done without having to drain any fluids? Reason I ask is because last summer I switched to the GM synchromesh and if they had to drain the fluid im gonna have to switch back to the synchromesh again at some point.

Thanks,
James

That's a great photo. Thank you. Did you have to replace the flywheel?

yes sir.... highly recommend replacing the flywheel... since it is not recommended to resurface a dual mass flywheel like our TL's have.

LUK is the OEM clutch. Here is a picture of their Repset kit 08-047.

I have a question...

My clutch pedal seems to have different "feels" to it depending...I've rebled the system and it got a new slave (with checkvalve removed) about 3 years ago...inside the cabin, when it rains, my clutch makes an annoying squeaking noise. I normally have to get in there and lube up the spring, and then spray some silicone grease into where the pedal goes through the firewall. I press it in a little by hand and stick the red spray tube in that little slit and it alleviates the noise...
I have very little slack in the pedal (I've adjusted the little nut where the ignition sensor goes on)
I've noticed that sometimes, the pedal feels harder than other times when changing gears...ALWAYS goes into gear...

Is the master going?!!? Only 76K on the clock so far and I do drive hard sometimes, but not often.

Just annoying...
check your fluid level or check see if the fluid is dirty. as for your clutch making an annoying sound when it rains i have the answer for this! i jsut cant remember lol. My brother had an RSX type S with the same exact problem. When the clutch would engage in rainy weather or running cold it would make a squeaky metal sound that didnt soudn bad, but annoying. I will ask him what is was

*edit

Clutch petal assembly needed lube and a motor mount broke off. caused a little movement and thus causing that annoying sound
