Curb Rash

Curb Rash
Hello,
Just picked up a CPO 2014 RLX w/ 15k miles on it. Really happy with the purchase with 1 exception.
3 of the 4 wheels were significantly damaged by curb rash. Dealer suggested they could be fixed for roughly $40 each.....and provided a bit of compensation to take care of the issue.
That said, now I have to find someone to fix it.
Anybody have any experiences with fixing curb rash?
Thanks in advance.

Don't know where you are, but try "Wheel and Rim Repair" in Google and you should find what you need. For me it brings up a half dozen local companies (one of which I have used) that say they will shine, polish, and straighten alloy wheels.

The prices vary bases on your location, the vendor and amount of repair. Some vendors have a shop, some will come to you. In my area it is typically $100 average to recondition an alloy wheel. The $40 the dealer estimated might be what the dealer pays a vendor they use regularly. If you got time and patience, and you say the rash is minor - perhaps DIY:

Thanks
fsmith & tampaRLX,
Thanks for the replies. I was able to get two quotes today.
first quote was 3 rims reconditioned for $250....which they made sound like a volume purchase deal...mobile vendor who comes to my office or home.
Second quote was $125 per rim from the local detailing shop at my work parking garage...they were not in a deal making mood....straight $125 per no negotiating.
Both quotes a far cry from the $40 the dealer quoted....normally I would have required the dealer deal with the situation before buying the car but I had flown 400 miles to see the car and didn't feel like staying over the night....
I'll call the local dealer to see if they have a contact that can get close to the $40/rim number.
Thanks again for the ideas/advice!

That sounds very reasonable. Depending on how minor the rash is, they may not even remove the wheel from the car - which is beneficial if they come to you / office. You may want to clarify if they expect to do the wheel repair with or without removing the wheel. Some of the mobile vendors have well equipped vans to recondition & repaint the wheel in the van - which seems more thorough to me. It would not be a bad idea to ask the vendor is they service any auto dealerships as that may indicate their quality and credibility.
And FYI, new OEM or reconditioned OEM wheels sell on ebay $275+ per wheel.

I have taken wheels to a wheel shop and they charged me $125 per wheel. They would fix any curb/rash/bend and color the wheel any color I want. I am in Ohio, I don't know if these prices are similar where you live.

I have had wheels refinished through my dealer for $150 each. That may be the standard price no matter how much the damage, including straightening. I also have tire and wheel insurance so I go through my dealer and I suppose the price might be less if I shopped around. But wheels that I have had refinished have come out beautifully, pretty much like new. It's like getting your wheels super-detailed!

I'm getting one of my TL wheels straightened but not refinished for $100. They offered a discount if I trued and refinished/detailed all of them for $325. Rates all seem to be on par, 75-125 a piece almost anywhere.

I was lucky and had a friend of a friend repair two curb rashes, at $60 a piece. It's about $100-120 normally, around here

Since the dealer quoted you $40 per wheel, use their services for the repairs. Sounds like fraud if they can't comply with terms of the sale.
