RLX rear spolier

Wondering how RLX look with rear spoiler. Anyone has more picture of it?

neuronbob 12-06-2013 04:31 AM

That shot looks surprisingly OK. I haven't seen any pics if the whole car with it on, though.

weather 12-06-2013 05:34 AM

I am still disappointed that the RLX doesn't have more accessories to give it a more aggressive stance with better wheels, and things like body kit. I am aware that it costs money to develop and manufacture these but given the number of complaints on how bland the RLX is, these could help for those willing to pay for them.

I thought that gluing plastic crap all over the car went out when Pontiac died? I prefer the classy stealth approach to the "whale tails" and the pseudo body kits.

Maybe the TLX will be more conducive to the glue on bits while the RLX keeps it head up high. Have you ever seen that bozo who glued bits onto a Lexus LS or a Merc E350? There are some cars that move above that category and I think that the RLX is one of them.

miner 12-06-2013 06:38 AM

I recall before Type-S nomenclature Honda had a FP (Factory Performance) option. The RLX could use some accessories to highlight it's ability to be a sporty sedan. My first TSX, '04 6MT, had a body kit and that changed the entire look of the car. Only complaint was when the car got up to highway and above speeds the side strake spoilers would begin to waiver in the wind and cause interior cabin noise.

Oswald Vater 12-06-2013 07:49 AM

I saw one with a spoiler on it the last time I was at the dealer. I must admit it did class up the car somewhat on the rear end but they also were charging $700 for it. Sorry I didn't get a picture and the car has since been sold.

bronx1480 12-06-2013 09:46 PM

im debating on getting the spoiler but i rather see how it looks it person first

I fully respect your opinion and I can see what you mean by the "pontiac" look to the body kits but some are decent looking. I liked how Acura had a different front bumper (and rear bumper) for the 2009 TSX when you ordered the body kit. This created a cleaner look with the "added pieces with glue" reference you are making. That being said, when I see the mod that people do to their cars, the OEM accessories are by far more classy in my opinion.

I liked the one piece bumpers on the 09-10 TSX as well.

Mine looks just like the photo/link you attached. I bought mine with the spoiler and the so-called "body kit"...just gives it a more classy look.

The 4G TL 2009-2011 had a front spoiler that added to the looks. If you didn't want to get the whole body kit, just getting that one front spoiler and mud guards made your car looks a little more like it meant sporting business.

:-)

The RLX rear spoiler, I don't like that very much, unless you just want to look a little different.

It doesn't do anything coming straight off the rear deck like that. It looks different, but to help with the airstream it would need to be a lot higher...and don't even think about it because I mean a lot higher.

It'd destroy the looks of the car completely if you had a rear spoiler that really worked, and at that point you'd have to change the nose in order to balance the car to keep the driving wheels on the ground at 130.

My track car ended up with one of Jeff Owens spoilers on the front and a Mugen spoiler on the tail. One thing always leads to another....

If you look up the official Acura instructions for installing it, you'll understand. 700 is too much, IMHO, but if you read the instructions you'll understand that it's a little annoying.

You don't just glue it on, you have to drill holes at the far ends of the deck.

And it adds just enough weight that they make you put helper springs on the rear deck closure mechanism.

Just seems like a lot of trouble for slightly different looks.

That's just me, of course. If somebody really wants to do it, then that's his personal choice and that choice is entirely valid.

We all express ourselves with our cars. :-)

Hell, it's cheaper than landscaping!!

Thanks..Those extras, to me, really make the car look complete.
My color looks great in the natural sunlight..these garage pictures don't do it justice

Haaa ha ha ha ha....! :-)

I asked only for wheel locks and splash guards, but lucked into body side molding because the only car they could find in my color already had them installed!

holografique 12-24-2013 11:39 PM

scv, do you mind posting some pics of the side view of your car from a distance? It's impossible to really tell how the spoiler looks in proportion to the rest of the car when the pic is that close to it.

I'd also like to see how the illuminated door sills looks like in normal daylight.

thanks!

scv76 12-24-2013 11:49 PM

I will try to get some pics tomorrow and post them.
Merry Xmas or what ever you celebrate to all

Rocketsfan 12-25-2013 02:41 AM

I think on many cars the add-on trim and body kits make them look better. The Honda Accord Sport makes good use of the add ons. Even the 4G TL's body kit looks good (except for the rear pieces that look like bolt ons). On other cars they can look rather um... hideous.

Were these a local dealer option? I do not see them on Acura's website. If you do not mind my asking, how much did they cost?
Thanks!

I was told the dealer took them out and had them chromed. They said they have a service where you turn in your rims and they give you a new chromed set, then they will send yours in etc. etc. etc...kinda like when everyone was doing the headlight clearing thing a while back.
I probably got ripped, cause the wheels were something like $1,800 or so...but I figured what the heck, I like them!!

Installation Prices

scv76 or anyone who may know: how much did installation run you on the remote start, body side molding & illuminated door sills? My dealer is charging ~$300 each & that sounds kinda high but just checking to see if maybe that is normal?

Thanks!

SLAMMED RLX 07-23-2014 09:48 AM

I just had it installed..I paid 320 from a online Acura OE parts and it was 135 I let the dealer put it on..adds a certain element that was needed

Ward78079 06-16-2015 10:19 AM

Your car looks great! I just got a white RLX and ordered a bunch of these accessories. How much did the install on the illuminated door sills cost you? The instructions look a little complicated and 12 pages long! If not too much trouble I'd like to know the install price on the spoiler and body side molding as well. Thanks!

But now, like me, you probably want the JDM-only Legend lips on the front, right?

:-)

Good luck with that. I'm not going to get them until somebody goes to Japan to get them, it looks like.

Guitaryojedi 07-02-2016 03:31 PM

When I purchased 2014 RLX P-AWS, it came with everything including Decklid Spoiler.
Now I got 2016 RLX SH-AWD, and that comes with nothing(lol)
Splash Guard, Side Molding was done, and took 2 and half hour for both of them to be installed. (Not bad, I think)

Now move on to the Rear Spoiler.

Paid $320 for the part, and will start installing next weekend.
Would like to save around $150 labor fee, so I will try to install them within 2hours or so.

I was surprised that the part is very light!
3M tape itself may hold them together, but I will drill holes to secure them just as installation manual says.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...fc05512b8a.jpg

will update soon.

pcloadletter 07-03-2016 12:39 PM

I installed one on the RL, didn't like the idea of drilling holes in the trunk, but it came out perfect with the included template.

Guitaryojedi 07-03-2016 11:39 PM

Right. Also as long as I don't forget to use touch-up paint around the edge of holes, that will not eat away. So, it's a must, I think!

Guitaryojedi 07-09-2016 01:52 AM

Done. Took 2 hours 15mins, but I think I managed ok.
Drilling holes are the toughest part.
3M tapes need to be applied as instruction showed you, otherwise middle part will be popped.

My RLX had the spoiler installed as part of the deal....but I noticed that the 3M tape in the middle does not stick well. I'm going to have to take it back in....i can feel it's sticky, but maybe there was too much wax on the vehicle or whatever, since the body was factory fresh......so, you might want to double check your middle part regularly. I can push it back in and it appears to stick for a few minutes, but then it will become loose again....argh!!!

ps. nice job installing yourself! I'm thinking of side moulding on mine.....does it look much better with it???
