Any1 have any experience installing air oil seperator on 2020 RLX SH-AWD
 

Curious if anyone has experience or thoughts on installing an air-oil separator or an oil catch can on a newer RLX SH-AWD?

I installed one on my 2014. I used this one https://a.co/d/7RflDZd. I used the bracket and mounted it in the center area above the radiator; I used the bolt which mounts the radiator shroud and the fan controller cooling block. You might want to get a slightly longer M6 flange bolt to replace the original (Think M6X20 works). From there, use the supplied 3/8" hose and get about 3 feet of 1/2" hose for the PCV outlet hose. I'll supply pics if needed. DO NOT USE THE BREATHER FILTER ON THE TOP OF THE CATCH CAN.

New to Acura and just picked up a very well maintained low mileage 2018 RLX SH-AWD which I’m very much enjoying! Single owner, garaged and only a bit over 24k on the clock. Quirky driving inputs, especially the pedals, but getting used to it and it’s a beast on the throttle along with being very unassuming. Suits my style perfectly.

I’m also curious about the catch can benefits to the 3.5 and if it’s a worthwhile venture. Understand the idea and I’m sure there are benefits, but are there drawbacks? I was under the impression the Honda DI system is less of a concern with buildup than other DI designs due to their engineering prowess. If it’s such a benefit, wouldn’t Acura have included it from the factory?

I'm not 100% sure; but, I think Honda/Acura don't put their fuel injectors dead center next to the spark plugs? I think their D.I. fuel injectors spray closer to the intake valves and that might help a little bit to reduce carbon build-up compared to other manufactures top center D.I. engines from VW or Audi.

Being new to the Honda/Acura world, I was curious how concerning buildup is in these motors and if there’s a general rule of thumb for regular induction cleaning or other maintenance routines from the more experienced on here. If these catch cans do eliminate most or all of this maintenance, I’d certainly consider doing the mod.

The only other major concern I’m seeing is the spun bearing issue in cylinder 5, considering mine is a 2018 model. Can’t imagine there’s much difference in other model years, but this is concerning and strange other MY seem unaffected. From what I understand, oil level needs to be spot on and changed regularly to avoid this issue and have seen a recent effort to force a recall from Acura.

Sorry to highjack the thread, just curious what the collective suggests for this potential catastrophic failure. I bought this car as my next daily for the next 10-15 worry free years, hopefully. Thanks!
