Timing belt change interval for low-mileage RLX SH
The wife's 2018 RLX Sport Hybrid was manufactured in December 2017, was put into service mid-2018 as a dealer "exec loaner", and we purchased it in March 2019 with 1100 miles on the clock. Today, it has only 19,800 miles on the odometer. Obviously we don't drive it a lot. But time does pass.
Acura states that the timing belt should be replaced at 105,000 miles (I think that's the interval), or 7 years. Obviously, mileage isn't in play here. But time may be. With a normal non-Hybrid car, the engine runs all the time when you're driving. In a hybrid, it runs I'd say about 2/3 of the time, with about 1/3 in hybrid mode with the ICE just sitting there. So mileage on a hybrid-based 3.5L motor could be even longer than 105k miles. But time is time.
So - how particular should I be about the 7 year mark for a timing belt change? And when does that 7 year clock start - when the car is built, or when it's put into service? Just trying to plan ahead...
thx - andy

FWIW do not have a RLX, but a 2005 TL and 2003 Pilot which I went over the 7 years (which is kinda grey area from last I remember). My TL I changed at 13 years, the belt looked fine (no cracks).

I'm in the same boat with my wife's 18 RLX SH that just turned over 7 years old with +40,000 miles (we put +/- 7K per year, purchased CPO with 7200 miles in Dec/2019). I probably won't see +105,000 miles until 2030-2032 at our current yearly mileage.

What crazy timing cause I haven't checked in here in years..... but I just made an appt today for a timing belt change on a 2016 SH with 70k miles. With my bad luck (rear TMU had to be replaced - yikes what an expensive part) earlier this year so I decided to just get it done.
I shudder to think what it would cost to fix / replace this transmission........
