A sacrilegious - RLX and trailer & wiring harness
A sacrilegious post - RLX and trailer & wiring harness
[Modmins: Please move to Modifications area if it is better suited there.]
Happy new year! Has anyone installed a trailer on their RLX and wiring harness? I'm considering purchasing an RLX, and my trailer needs are light. Lightweight motorcycle trailer and a motorcycle to the track. Altogether under 1,000 lbs. The Draw-Tite trailer has a hidden crossbar that I plan to install, but I can't seem to find any company that makes plug-n-play wiring harness for the RLX.
I am thinking two options:
1. Hopefully someone on here have taken the tail light assemblies, and can confirm that the plug is the same as the MDX or TL or TLX so I can just buy a wiring harness for such model.
2. Hopefully someone on here have had the same problem, and have come up with a solution. I did a quick search and did not see anyone post trailer hitches or trailer wiring harness.
If there isn't a suitable solution, I'm afraid I have to give up the deal on the RLX and buy another vehicle.
Thanks in advance!

So I did a quick look, and it appears Curt makes a plug-and-play connector for the RLX as long as you're getting a 2017 or earlier. In the 2018 redeisgn they redid the whole rear facia with full LED lighting, and I'm sure it created a 1-off situation that the aftermarket wiring companies chose not to create a T-connector for. I'm guessing you're looking at 2018 or later given you couldn't find it. I'm thinking that you'd have to find a wiring kit that's made for another latest-gen rear lighting setup from Acura - 2019 ILX, 2021 TLX, 2022 MDX. Maybe the 2019 RDX would work, but I don't think it's fully LED in the same way the others are.
Personally - owning a 2018 RLX sport hybrid (which you can't tow with regardless), I'm not sure I'd like the suspension trying to handle any trailer tongue weight - it's pretty low and soft suspension-wise to begin with.....

Thankfully motorcycle trailers are a heck of a lot lighter than a small trailer, and my motorcycle is about 400 lbs. I think 100 lbs tongue weight should be fine. I have not had issues with my 2012 TL for years. Granted, I only tow my motorcycle to the track and back.
Thanks again for looking into that. Much appreciated.
