Monostable Gear Selector and Recent Actor's Death

Am a PAWS owner and have not driven the RLX hybrid version, so am asking the question to the hybrid owners: Have you had an incidence where you were not sure the shifter was in park?

Never for me! Also if you hit the power button to turn off the car, it goes in to park automatically.
Further i always engage the parking brake before i take my foot off the brake and turn off the car.

I swithched from P-AWS to SH-AWD RLX a week ago.
Yes, it's confusing a bit at first, but I just get used to it already...

Usually you don't leave your car while ignition is on.
So, like pgeorg said, after pressing the power button to turn off the car, it automatically goes to Park.

But indeed, that's a scary incident, and what a tragedy...

With the KC2, I don't think you *can* do what he did.

Doesn't the car move to P if you open the door while the car's in gear?

Yes, but the seatbelt has to be unbuckled also.

It's not possible for this to happen in the Sport Hybrid. As others have stated, the car goes into park automatically when the driver's door opens.

The shifter in question made for FCA is poorly designed (IMHO) and confusing, ours is not.

Thanks for everyone's input. It is good hearing Acura, like BMW and Mercedes, programmed the door opening safety interlock (go into park) feature. Yes, it is a terrible tragedy. Mr. Yelchin was already an accomplished actor at age 27. His performance in Terminator Salvation was excellent.

The New York Times reports today that Fiat Chrysler is doing a software update to fix the Jeep electronic gearshift problem. It will automatically shift the car to Park if the door is opened. That's clever! (I assume they will also figure out that the seatbelt also has to be unlatched and the car stopped.)
