mine is green - perhaps green means connected, red not?

Do you see the Acura link icon in the Nav display?

^^^ yes likely the cellular connection for AcuraLink. My ONSTAR has a similar light, but the problem is me being colorblind I can never really tell whether it is green or red.

The green light is back along with the AcuraLink logo on the Nav.

I finally read up on Acuralink today and realized you have to subscribe even to get the free package. The car must have a demo account from the Dealer that lasts a while after purchase (same with XM).
Did the subscription from the car using the link and you get a 3 month free trial of the premium package. After subscribing, the light changed from green to red. The agent said it would take up to 15 minutes to activate. While red, the Acuralink icon remained in the Nav display. Was on my way to store when activating. After returning to car, light was green and I now have an additional icon between the acuralink and the cell phone indicator I assume that must indicate premium package

edit - just looked in the manual. The icon is for messages recvd with acuralink

OK, now I'm confused on the light. This morning the light was red the entire trip (30 minutes) while the Acuralink icon was present with full signal strength.

I don't see any reference to the light in the manual

This has me very curious but apparently no one else

Yesterday, the light went from green to red several times. When it was red, I pushed the acuralink button and it successfully connected. At all times it was red, the acuralink icon was displayed and had full signal.

It changes color every time the NSA uploads tracking information from your RLX.

I'm now wondering if the light is related to receiving Acuralink messages. This morning light was red and there was a message. I had noticed this before, but when you read and delete the message the light stays red. I'm thinking it does not clear itself back to green until you turn car off and back on.

Makes sense or no? If no, I'm back to Tampa's NSA theory

Is there a difference? They both watch everything we do. And if they don't like it, you are kidnapped and taken to a remote location where unspeakable things are done to you.

well not so sure it is messages.
I got the red light today with no messages. I know it cannot be connectivity because traffic comes over acuralink and traffic stayed on the entire time the light was red. Also, the acuralink icon was there as well.

However, later after light was green, I did get a text message (message icon shows up) and looked up and light was red. Read text, icon goes away and red light persists.

Maybe you are on a 'roaming' network when its Red? I think Acura uses Verizon for its communications?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm....

I was wondering that except Verizon has excellent coverage where I live and doubt it would have to roam if its Verizon. Perhaps they use a different carrier?

I'm still thinking it is somehow tied to messages, but the timing is very slow. It does not seem to turn red right when a message arrives and it does not go away for quite a while after reading a message.

I'm curious about it but it's not to the point of distraction.

I used it a few times yesterday while it was red, and nothing was out of the ordinary.

I should have asked the concierge, I guess. LOL....

I am fairly certain it is an indicator for Acuralink connectivity. The RL has a similar LED indicator for the ONSTAR connection.

Acuralink has 2 way receive / transmit capability via Verizon cellular. Acuralink is not yet a 4G service, there are limits. This also is replacing the XM transmission of Acuralink data from the RL.

Since the RLX also has an Acuralink icon on the LCD and you mentioned you saw the Acuralink icon on the LCD while the LED was red, I would deduce this LED indicator is to signal the availability of 2 way connectivity.

No Acuralink icon = no connectivity
Acuralink icon + red LED = receive only
Acuralink icon + green LED = receive and transmit capability

Keep in mind I cannot find any documentation to support this, but this is simply my best analysis.

That is find and dandy until the aliens peel off their fake skin revealing the reptilian flesh eating carnivores they really are. (That description can also be applied to certain ex wives....)

I doubt if any NSA agents fit your description. And if they do, it is just another example of misappropriated federal resources.

So is this fantasy of yours common to meteorologists? I know several...and they all confess to fantasies of using the green screen to project themselves into a porn flick. Or just the result of cranial frostbite?

^^ *LMAO* That was quite funny!! Now unlike your friends...I don't use the green screen because I do TV broadcasts, however, I can see the appeal

Its nice to be able to find people that have quirky sense of humor....Life is already stressful as it is! Thanks for the chuckle.

I am old enough to have lusted for both Dianas. But after the horror of the lizard thing, I was ruined for life. To this day I test beautiful women by seeing if they are tempted by a fly or dead mouse.

So you think I really worry if the LED is red or green?

Interesting theory, But I have had a message in the queue plus the red light all day yesterday. It was green for a while after the message arrived, but some time later turned red
Going to leave the message there all day today and see if the light ever turns green.

And just how do you casually do this?

"Hmm, where is that condom..."

[rummages around]

"oh, don't mind this dead mouse..."

[leaves dead mouse on table]

"Ah, here it is....now, where were we...."

I'm pretty sure that it is related to messages, but there is a long time delay. I left the messages unread for 2 days. On short trips (5 to 10 minutes) the light would come on green and stay green. However, on longer trip, light would turn red and stay red for the entire trip. This is through areas where I know there is good signal. In addition, the Alink icon and traffic were always on.

That said, the light may also turn red if the link is lost.

Ok, I'm obsessed with this

After more driving, what I can tell for sure is that the light turns red almost every trip if the trip is over 15 minutes long. Once it turns red, I have yet to see it turn back to green until I turn the car and get in for next trip. I was correlating with messages before, because I was getting the new feature messages once per day. No longer getting those and light still turns red. No other issues in terms of traffic, acuralink, or other, i.e., there was no loss of these services.

ok, 1 more puzzle piece and the most puzzling yet..

This is the first time I drove car and the AcuraLink icon was not displayed. However, traffic flow showed. Little Light was Green until about 15 minutes into drive where it turned red as usual. Shortly thereafter the Acuralink icon showed up. Light stayed red. As I indicated before, once it turns red, it has never turned back to green for me until the next time I start car.

FYI, I asked our trainer what was up with the light and provided a business card for him to get back to me after he talked to an engineer... no word yet.

Now I understand why miner has that little transmitter box with the toggle switch 'Red Light / Green Light". I just could not figure out why he would randomly flip the switch and belly an evil 'Muahahahahaha!'

I've been having some trouble recently.

I cannot always get a destination sent to the car from the AcuraLink iOS application even when the server verifies that it has been sent.

I cannot always receive the TRF connection with AcuraLink when selecting QuickRoute. The TRF icon might or might not be showing when the car reports that it cannot connect to AcuraLink to retrieve routing information.

I started a trouble ticket.

Red light sometimes, green light other times.
